Allright so i think it's fairly obvious Bioware has dug themselves into a deep hole with the varying (lol yea right) endings of ME3. Making a proper sequel will be damn difficult if not outright impossible so the logical next step will be a prequel i think.
My first and most obvious guess is during the First Contact War. (Mass Effect:First Contact...come on you know its a good title lol)
Ok now to think slightly adjacent to the box
I want to have one set during either the Rachni War or the Krogan Rebellion..or hell maybey both. Here's how it would play out: in the first half you would play as a krogan warlord fighting the rachni while in the second half during the rebellion you could play as a salarian STG or a turian commander having the krogan you play as in the first half be the antagonist. Im sure there are games that have probably done this (having a playable protagonist turn into a villain later) but i haven't played them so it would be cool to see it happen in one of my favorite franchises. It would be called Mass Effect: Paradigm (for lack of a better titl)

So what are you guy's theories? Include cool title for said game if possible :p

Its gonna be a prequel (Damnit, I hate prequels) They will probably set it during the first contact war if they want humans in the game. There is a huge history they can pull from

Well, why not make a prequel but during the Prothean cycle. After speaking with Javik they seem like they have an interesting culture and setting.]

Also, they could make a sequel to ME3 easily seeing as there wasn't very many endings.

I don't even care. They've created a fantastic universe, but for me it was all about my Shepard and the crew of the Normandy.
Exactly. "Mass Effect" = "The Adventures of Shepard and Company." They might as well try to make a Metroid game without Samus.

I don't see the point of a prequel, in any case. We already know what happens, and we know everything about the universe that we needed to know. Discovering the secret origin of C-3P0 did not improve Star Wars.

In fact, when was the last time a prequel was good? I just spent five minutes trying to think of a prequel of any kind--a game, a movie, or whatever--that was even half as satisfying as the thing it was based on. The only one I could recall was Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, but that's not a "prequel" as we typically use the term, because each of those movies was its own, self-contained story.

They could just try to come up with something new instead, like they used to...okay, I know, it's not bloody likely. EA will insist on milking the Mass Effect name until the udders fall off.

okay, let's think, what's the most common thing Bioware has done with spin-off titles?

If I remember right, they generally put subtitles on the Mass Effect title that mostly end with 'ion' like Ascension, Retribution, Revelation, etc.

So the title for the next Mass Effect game? what would you say they'd Pull off? Mass Effect: Justification? Mass Effect: Subversion? Mass Effect: Fabrication? the list can go on and on....

EA doesn't know the meaning of "play it safe because you're financially f**ked", as seen with their "WE GOTTA SELL 209310981973821 MILLION COPIES OF DEAD SPACE 3!!!!". They'll probably make a kinect game or a even more linear shooter. In fact, because of how negative the fan reaction was, I don't even think they'll attempt another ME game within the next year. Or best case scenario the company kills itself with the release of Dead Space 3 because we know that will be a financial disastrophy.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution was good.

Hell, I liked it better than the original.

X-Men: First Class was pretty good. And while The Scorpion King wasn't particularly great, I think it's fair to say that it was at least half as satisfying as The Mummy Returns :p

Point taken though, they're usually not great. I don't think that means there's something wrong with the concept so much as it is something wrong with typically lazy execution.

As for continuing Mass Effect, a prequel would probably make the most sense but I've said it before and I'll say it again: I don't put it beyond Bioware to declare one of the ME3 endings to be the canon one and continue on that basis.

They've proven before that they're willing to overwrite player choice or established lore in the series when it suits them (Udina as Councillor, Shepard being alive at the start of ME3, ending unlimited ammo, etc) so I think it's certainly possible that they'll continue the series either by choosing an ending that suits them to be the canon one, or coming up with some ham-fisted way to tie all the possible endings back together again :p
