Mm. I don't think we're going to get dystopian anytime soon.

I'm more worried about a Demolition Man style future.
yes that would have me quite boggled. lol
joy joy feelings citizen
i can't have joy joy feelings until i learn how to use the three seashells...they look painful and difficult...if so i must start figuring out which words i'm going to use to produce enough fines for the next 50 years, I could just record the audio from a yahtzee reveiw and stick it up to the device that might give me enough. lol

(p.s. I love yahtzees reveiws that wasn't a negative remark btw)

I'm not so bothered by OP's last prediction :D

I imagine the future to be like New York times 100. And futurized.

In the future, wars will be fought over drinking water.
In the future, forests will be clearcut to make way for oilseed crops for biodiesel production.
In the future, the agribusiness giants and the oil companies will merge.
In the future, the oceanic ecosystem will collapse, leaving fast stretches of water in which there are no nutrients, no oxygen, and no life.

It is the 41st Millennium. For more than a hundred centuries the Emperor has sat immobile on the Golden Throne of Earth. He is the Master of mankind by the will of the gods, and master of a million worlds by the might of his inexhaustible armies. He is a rotting carcass writhing invisibly with power from the Dark Age of Technology. He is the Carrion Lord of the Imperium for whom a thousand souls are sacrificed every day, so that he may never truly die.

Yet Even In his deathless state, the Emperor continues his eternal vigilance. Mighty battlefleets cross the daemon-infested miasma of the warp, the only route between distant stars, their way lit by the Astronomican, the psychic manifestation of the Emperor's will. Vast armies give battle in his name on uncounted worlds. Greatest amongst his soldiers are the Adeptus Astartes, the Space Marines, bio-engineered super-warriors. Their comrades in arms are legion: the Imperial Guard and countless planetary defence forces, the ever vigilant Inquisition and the tech-priests of the Adeptus Mechanicus to name only a few. But for all their multitudes, they are barely enough to hold off the ever-present threat from aliens, heretics, mutants - and worse.

To Be A man in such times is to be one amongst untold billions. It is to live in the cruelest and most bloody regime imaginable. These are the tales of those times. Forget the power of technology and science, for so much has been forgotten, never to be re-learned. Forget the promise of progress and understanding, for in the grim dark future there is only war. There is no peace amongst the stars, only an eternity of carnage and slaughter, and the laughter of thirsting gods.
Thats so stolen hahaha if we go by that we are gunna waiting a while
This Year - 2009
Prediction - 40000

[cough]Fallout 3 Wastelands[/cough]. Would be kind of cool.
When you're getting mauled by a Molerat I'd like to hear you say that haha.

Anyone seen Idiocracy? That's exactly where we are headed.
"It all started in 1940 when Charlie Caplen and his Nazi horde invaded Europe with their war-rexes, but America fought back with dinosaurs of our own."
But a more powerful force would arise. The UN, and they would UNNazi the world!

China and Russia both have many internal problems that they would have to deal with before becoming a leading super power. Russia has Chechnya massive crime and a one party state that is essentially a dictatorship. China has a massive poverty problem, several dissident minorities, tons of human rights violations, and a growing middle class that wont tolerate having no say in the running of the country for much longer.

If it came down to military conflict, keep in mind China's military training is not anywhere close to ours, it probably wouldn't end up as an invasion the US could cripple China with air and naval power. Russia's military is in pretty much the same boat plus its funding is collapsing.

Russia will be the next top dog, followed by Europe and China. Russia's got the oil and gas, Europe's got the money and military and China's got the industry and manufacturing. Since all the eco-bastards were wrong and Antarctica is actually getting thicker, I don't think we'll be underwater any time soon. It all depends on how America chooses to go into decline. Will it fight it politically, economically or militarily?
I don't see Russia being the top dog again, true they have got oil but that is only useful as long as the rest of the world NEEDS oil.Once the rest of the world moves on from fossils fuels, hopefully some time this century, Russia will become even less powerful than it is now.
I see China becoming the top super power in the coming decades, its estimated that they will have the worlds most powerful economy by 2040. They already manufacture most of the worlds goods.
America will probably remain powerful, i do not see any general decline in America- I just see China overtaking America. With that, there could be your nuclear war- which would not be pleasant and probbaly result in some fallout 3 like dystopia. But before that the power order probably would be

1)China
1/2)-America
3)Europe
4)India
5)Russia
6)Japan
I read an article recently which noted the increasing strength of Russia and its economy bolstered by its oil and natural Gas. We are not going off fossil fuels any time soon, and Russia will soon dominate the market. It will also dominate the market for natural gas, something that is already affecting the Europeans. The writer wrote that the US gov needed to patch up relations with Russia, because as it now has a solid, more western economic system it could in fact win a second cold war. Russia is also rutheless enough to squash any opposition and while it may not militarily go toe to toe with the USA (which will be militarily strong for a while yet, even if its power goes into decline) there is no way in hell China could take on Russia and win. Keep an eye on Russia. They'll claw their way back to the top.

I don't remember the name of the article but the author was Scott Ritter. We looked at the approaching political hierarchy at Uni.
