My understanding is that "warrior" isn't referring to the brave fighters of yore, but is instead derived from the derogatory "keyboard warrior." This matches the perception that all these individuals do is whine online without getting anything done. Strongly associated with this is the "White Knight."

Well he isn't quite right, people do go ahead and call themselves that. Generally as a joke because others accuse them of it as far a I've seen. But mostly I see it used as a sort of insult
