I was watching Max Payne the other day, and I was blown away...I loved it. But after seeing what everyone else said about it and how "no game movie ever works" I began to think, are there any games that would truly translate well to the big screen?

I reckon any war game could, there aren't enough War flicks these days. Especially after seeing how cinematic MW2 was, I believe it could do very well..

Opinions?

Hmmm... I wonder what Left 4 Dead would be like... "Pills Here!"
...
Maybe Red Faction... the first game... could be interesting...
I can't really think of anything right now... but...
Perhaps you're right, MW2 could be made into a movie...

Not really a "game based movie", but there are certainly some pretty wicked stories in the history of video games that would be worthy of a movie.

Also, Monkey Island.

Fixed it for you
Also I would say that warcraft 3 (aren't they making a WOW movie now?) or starcraft could be made into a half decent movie. But still I would advise against it.

Movies based on games don't work.

The exception to this rule has already been made. It's called Advent Children. Now, Hollywood producers, could you please stop injecting molten agony to my eyes with the craptastic movies you make based on games?

Also, this

MW2 made by Michael Bay, it would be so filled with big explosions and awesome gunfights that you would die of awesomeness :D

agreed.

OT: i would like to see L4d on the big screen, i would say there aren't enough zombie movies, but i think it would be more accurate to say there are enough good zombie movies.

also would i get hate spam if i said that they should make metal gear solid 4 a movie sense its cut sences are longer then most movies?

I reckon god of war could translate amazingly onto film.
There is/was plans for that and I wouldn't mind on the condition is was entirely CGI work and the studio that made the games were in constant contact for advice. Because Kratos' moves just don't translate well to real life as far as I can see.

I would say 'The Witcher', because I imagine it turning out something like Van Helsing, but much better, the problem would probably be the length, and this is something I forsee for almost all video game movie ports. Theres meant to be heaps of depth and longevity to a good story-based game, and you can't put 30 hours of gameplay-ish storytelling into a 130 minute movie.
