what Game breaking bug have you encountered?

I was playing pillar of eternity very recently and during got game breaking bug during one of the main quests called "Hermit of Hadred House" and now I can not find anyway to proceed and am now stuck in act 2.

I tried to make it work by doing this
https://www.reddit.com/r/projecteternity/comments/364m8x/how_to_fix_the_hermit_of_hadred_house_bug_in_1
but the quest is still stuck.

I got enough hours of entertainment out of this game to be able to say, I did not waste my money. I am not mad but I am disappointed and feel slightly sad. luckily the game still being worked on; so there should be a patch that eventually fixes this.
Before encountering this bug, the game was almost bug free so getting major game breaking bug caught me by surprised me. I can't say that I was fully surprised because this game was made by Obsidian.

despite this happening I still like the game enough that I am considering starting a second playthough using a different class(not a druid) or maybe I will just go back to playing gothic 2 gold. Both feel like perfectly viable options at this point.

Edit- I found a way to fix it.

I download a file modified file that determined the conversion you have with the important character, and had it temporarily replace the default file. I pick the one that matched the group I supported. The file ignored all context and just made all the dialogue available.

I beat the game and did not encounter any other noticeable bugs. It feels like an overall bugfree-ish game baring that one major bug I had to deal with.

A bug that happened on Fallout New: Vegas on the PS3 is my favorite. You were unable to enter New Vegas at all, because your game would just completely crash without fail, every time. It a had a solution, one that I think should be marked in history as the best bug fix. You had to have your character put on an old cowboy hat. No, I'm being dead serious, putting on this hat fixed the bug and let you enter New Vegas. It had a fix, but man did it piss me off.

Wow, at least there was a fix - but what the hell would cause something like that and for something so stupid to be the fix anyway?

I've started New Vegas again (on PC). Never finished it as I usually mod the game to hell with so much more to find and do, that if the hundreds of hours of more ADD content don't distract me the crashes eventually bunch up to where the game is a complete frustration of play. I'm starting it again (for the 3rd time), with some conservative modding and fresh install, and I'm already I'm having crashes 1-3 times an hour. I've just accepted that it's a buggy mess and almost sworn it off - it's a love hate thing. These black eyes and busted lip? No... No, I fell against a Brahmin. New Vegas loves me, he really does. He hurts me because he loves me.

ANYWAY, I really feel sorry for those of you playing the console equivalent of these games where you can't access the console or install a mod to get around a game breaking bug. Skyrim was much improved over the Fallout games, with their new engine - but even so one of my friends caught a bug that broke the main quest - and no console patches ever fixed it. I'm hopeful that with Fallout 4 enabling console mod support, modders will be able to create a way to bypass or fix any bugs encountered on that side as well. Provided it isn't a buggy/crashing mess, this could go over as a wonderful new innovation for console gamers.

Some bugs fixes are hilarious. For Medieval 2 Total War, people who have instant crashes on battle maps have had it fixed.. By turning off Daylight savings mode on their desktop...

Yeah, even with NVSE, Anti-Crash, 4GB LAA... Vegas can be a finicky beast. I've been lucky, running over 110 mods including huge ones like Tale of Two Wastelands, Alton and Beyond Boulder Dome, and mines pretty crash free. Had to uninstall XRE cars though as it kept freezing the game.

I've never encountered a proper game breaking bug that totally halted all progress, except one. The Getaway on PS2. On the first level the city didn't seem to load so I could't move more than a few feet in the car and kept failing the mission. I took the game back and got a replacement copy then it worked fine, which is odd. More of a manufacturer fault than a bug, I guess.

That awkward moment when you've suffered from that glitch as well. I was just as confused how that setting could cause a game to hard crash.

It's such a random solution. I do actually have issues with Medieval 2 mods, namely mod "Elephant" unit types (Like Ents, wolves and Spiders in Third Age, pretty much every damn unit in Hyrule Total War" insta crash the battle map for me. A lot of people get it and nobody really knows why. Not really game breaking but means I have to auto-resolve those battles. Even weirder is actual elpehants don't crash it, just these modded units that use their unit type.

I was playing Fallout 3 and my Liberty Prime got stuck on a car he threw in front of himself so I couldn't beat the game. I had to reload a much earlier save (which was a pain in the ass) to actually beat the damn game. Which ended up not being worth it. -sob-

That's the only one I actively remember; I'm sure there's been one or two in Skyrim that've pissed me off enough to never play again but I don't recall them.

OH I have this "Last Will and Testament of Sherlock Holmes" game and I'm at this part where I have to talk to someone. I've done everything I'm supposed to up to the point I'm at and they still aren't where they're supposed to be. Doesn't help that Watson's disembodied voice was like "Holmes, you should do this!" And I'm like "THEY AREN'T THERE" and that's a REALLY big pain in the ass because those games are tedious af and I didn't bother remembering the solutions to half the convoluted puzzles they shove in your face. ...I like Sherlock Holmes games, what can I say. ANYWAY the only way for me to get past it is to start over. Hellll naw.

I had a game breaking bug in Fallout 3, when I would try to approach the hideout for those runaway slaves. I forget the name of the place, but it's that gutted out concrete building, where they are trying to restore the Lincoln Memorial. Approaching their front gate would crash my game, every time. Not sure why, unless it was the scripted conversation with the woman who confronts you when you first approach. But I'm pretty sure I'd already been to the place before, and had that cutscene. Annoying but not too bad.

I had a game breaking bug in Life is Strange, episode 3. You are in the diner, talking to a person, and if you do certain actions, the person becomes angry and attacks you. You have to rewind from this point and try something else. However, when I tried to rewind, it wouldn't get me out of the freeze frame moment of him coming at me with murder on his face. I could rewind all day, and it would show the rewind animations and sounds. But it wouldn't actually undo the paused time with him coming at me. Thankfully a reload of the last save point resolved this issue.

Though my favorite was in Skyrim, for the Xbox 360. I loaded it up for the first time ever, and I'm in the cart, rolling along. At first it just seemed like they were trying to establish a tranquil scene, with all of the passengers being quiet. But they just kept not talking to me...for the entire ride. None of the scripted dialogue sequences started. And when the horse cart got to the place where I'm supposed to be beheaded, they turned, and started bonking their heads against the wall next to the gate, instead of going through it. They were like bumper cars, bonk head, back up a foot, bonk head again, back up a foot, bonk head again.

Had to totally reboot to get it to work. But it was so damn unstable on the 360, I eventually gave up and bought it for PC to play. Which was fine, as the 360 version was my sister in law's copy, so I didn't lose any cash on it, and I got a better version with the PC.

I have never played the game and it has been a while since the conversation so I could be a bit out but I am almost certain the game was the original Half Life on PC. My friend bought it and installed but could not get out of the train at the start apparently someone was supposed to open a door or something but they would just die as soon as they got to it and he would be trapped.

Apparently he never got it sorted even after reinstalling. Never heard anyone else having this bug butit made me laugh the way he was describing it.

I had a weird one in Magic the Gathering on Xbox. It was the real time game version but the game would always crash when facing a particular fight on the blue mage guy. I went through 4 different versions of the game and still had that problem took it round a friends house and it worked fine on his Xbox, so I changed my Xbox and got the same problem took it back and changed it again and it fixed it. I have no idea what the problem was but it was a pain in the arse. If I did not like that game so much I would have just tossed it.

Had quite a few others and seen plenty more at friends houses but I always remember these two.

I spend my time hunting for bugs in games for fun, so I've run into a lot that just mean you can no longer progress. Normally during some form of sequence breaking.
Although I've ran into a few game breaking bugs by accident before too. Generally some NPC not spawning or something.

There's a bug in Oblivion revolving around the Mage's Guild and that star chamber (I forget what it's called) room. One of the quests has you needing to speak with the woman who maintains/works in that room and she's supposed to be found in the main lobby area of the Mage's Guild...however on some playthrough's she's in the star chamber and absolutely will not come out. This is a problem because the door is locked with a key, and thus cannot be picked...and the only person with a key to that door is the very lady you need to speak to. As such, on some playthroughs, it's impossible to complete the Mage's Guild questline.

The biggest one I encountered was in the PS3 version of Skyrim, a few months after it came out. The one where the game would save up so much memory over time its framerate would drop to the single digits. I'm not sure I'm remembering the cause just right, but whatever it was, it was an absolutely unforgivable sin to release the game with in such a condition and one I can only expect from Bethesda.

The first time I played the adventure game Broken Sword was a Game Boy Advanced port. Worked well enough, except for:
At one point in the game, you must go to Syria to get a clue, and Spain to get a chalice, then to France to have the chalice cleaned. Do this out of order, and the NPC who cleans the chalice will take it, but not give it back!
The game can't be completed when this happens, you just have to restart, and it happens a little after half way through the game. Rumor has it that the game was playtested by family members of the port team, and they were working off a walkthrough.

Wonderful game. I've never had any strange crashes or bugs with it, but I've only ever used the Big Map mod. I installed NVAC and the other stuff available, and it is much more stable now than it was, I put it down to being that New Vegas is essential a mod Obsidian created over Fallout 3. There are still remnants of FO3 in the files when you look through the construction set. So, total conversion mod + more mods = :(

This happened to me as well - although without the car. He just stopped right before a bridge or something and stood there, leaving me trying to figure out why he stopped and trying to go on without him.

THIS HAPPENED TO ME! Only one time, many years ago. I was showing a friend the game, and the thing about Half-Life 1 is there's that ridiculously long intro sequence where you're just riding along for 5 minutes or so and there's no reason to save or anything (not even sure if you can). So the train car pulls up, Barney walks up to it but he just stands there. Without him pushing buttons to open the door, nothing happens. I used the no clip mode to get out, but even then Barney wouldn't proceed over to open the door to the next area which breaks the level loading. I know your friend's frustration with that one.

Playing Thief 2, I was in a mission where I had to tail a courier, read the letter she secretly drops and then tail the guy who picks it up afterwards. The problem was, I couldn't pick up the letter. It would not highlight when I approached it, and I could not interact with it. If the recipient picks it up before I read the message, then I lose automatically.
Sometimes it works, but it takes awhile to get to that point in the level, and save scumming doesn't fix it. Usually I had to resort to using a level-skip cheat.

Recently I've been playing Vampire Masquerade: Bloodlines. If you've heard of it, you probably know that my findings were rich. Most of the bugs weren't game-breaking, probably because I had this one patched. However, I ran into my share of sidequest-breaking bugs, where NPCs important to certain missions did not appear.

A few decades earlier, I played Prince of Persia 3D. Looked neat back when we used to get excited about things being 3D, but it was really buggy. There was one bug where a moving platform would not move, which made progressing impossible.

Batman Arkham Origins. It already broke twice for me, this time i got stuck at the Hotel where you first meet Joker or his goons at least, Theres a room filled with explosives which i failed to defuse so i jumped out a window and got stuck there after gliding into a spot with autosave, i think there was supposed to be a helicopter which would help me advance, but it dissapeared. If i had a physical copy of it i would throw it out the window.

Prince of Persia: The Warrior Within had a rare bug where you could become stuck as the sand wraith and could not continue the plot at all. Only way to fix it was to have saved before you got the mask and reload it or otherwise your SOL and have to start over, this moment being about 90% of the way through the game, needless to say it's the only one in the trilogy I haven't finished.

This one time in State of Decay I was hunting down a Big 'Un. I put a ton of shots into him(like 50+ shotgun shells at point blank) and he just wasn't going down.
So I had to leave the area to go get more ammo. No big deal, right?
WRONG!
When I got back to the hunting area with a high powered rifle, grenades and a sledgehammer I found the Big 'Un had called some of his friends. And by friends I mean literally hundreds more Big Un's. The entire grove he was in was filled to the brim with hundreds upon hundreds of them.
There was nothing I could do! Even calling an artillery strike didn't do anything and I'm sure there simply isn't enough ammo in the entire game to kill them all.
So I had to restart from a checkpoint and lose a few hours of work. And when the Hunt mission came back up I let it expire. Not risking that bullshit again!

Also there was thing one time in Space Marine. I was playing Chaos Exterminatus and for whatever reason the game bugged out during the 2nd wave of the first map. It wouldn't stop spawning guardsmen and Space Marines. Between the 4 of us on the team we played for well over 2 hours, just raking up thousands of kills a piece. It was actually pretty amazing. We eventaully let ourselves die, but I'll always look back on the day 4 chaos marines killed an entire company of Ultramarines.

At one point in Ocarina of Time one of the ladders required to reach a higher level in the Forest temple didn't appear. At all. I reset the game, looked around for that ladder everywhere, trying to figure out what was wrong (I wasn't looking at a guide) and I found nothing.
So I played through the whole game again in another file. And I found the ladder. And when I went back in the other file, I found the ladder.
The same thing happened for me in a couple of PC edutainment games. In a Liberty's Kids game one of the items necessary to continue the stage just flat-out didn't appear. So I started a new file and viola. Same thing happened to one of my Where In Time is Carmen Sandiego games. One of the characters that I needed to talk to didn't appear after three levels of no problems, so I had to go back and replay the whole game again.
