When I was younger, I acted all dark and edgy "I hate the world and everyone in it" kind of thing. You know what I'm talking about.
Then as I got older, I got more mature and more morally sound and realistic, as Mercer clearly does.

I was literally horrified about how similar I was to FE10's Lehran. Not just mentally, but also physically. Sympathetic to a fault, prone to depression, very similar way of thinking.
I can't even watch one of the scenes without getting an upset stomach and bad nausea.
To me, he's the ultimate example of what I don't want to turn into. After I got over how simultaneously disappointing and awesome the game itself was, I took a long look at myself, and came out from the ordeal a better person.
If fiction causes self-reflection instead of comparing yourself to the badass of the month, I'd say it was a good experience. Silly but true.

I think I'm like a combination of Yosuke and Kanji from Persona 4.
Reasons I'm like Kanji: Is more likely to stay calm in fucked-up situations; is totally the "that's a stupid idea and you're stupid, have you been smoking LSD" guy; really shy; fairly quiet for the most part, but can be quite loud when angered; and I would totally use a folding chair to beat down creatures that want to eat me.
Reasons I'm like Yosuke: Is totally the joke-at-a-funeral, unintentional-asshole guy; makes stupid decisions; likes to look cool with sharp things; can be REALLY LOUD when angered.

I am a joke in my own life, forever regarded as either something to be pitied or something to poke fun at. When shit hits the fan, I'm first forgotten, left to battle demons all on my lonesome, even though I'm hobbled due to mishaps outside my control.
All I want is money and power, but not for their own sakes. Instead, it is so I can rescue myself, and my many, oft unaware of just how important they are, loved ones from harm.
Circumstances have made me fairly bitter, though I possess a wicked tongue often noticed by others. And, for as much as they ignore me, I'm the one people come to when their own lives have gone to hell, for the tools they need to put things right. But it always costs them a little to see what I can offer.

But, hopefully, my legacy, when combined with some future person's ingenuity and creativity, will birth a rich life for them and others beyond into the future.
