I recently started up a new Morrowind save file in which I tried as best as I could to approximate how I, as in the real-life meatspace version of me, would translate into the game. No powergaming, just pure, unadulterated role-playing (since I've beaten that game so completely to death, why not?) I even went so far as to look up my birthsign in the UESP.net wiki (The Apprentice, since I was born in July which equates to Sun's Height in the Tamrielic calendar) for authenticity, and made myself a Breton because I've got a French name. Interestingly, the character I'm role-playing is a tailor-made mage and I've always had a love of short blades so I'm using them quite a bit.

Since I also tend to create myself in sports games using a generous approximation of the big-league equivalent of my best skills in the various sports (my Tiger Woods '05 avatar looks shockingly like me, in fact), I got to wondering---are others as geeked about creating themselves in games as I am? And if so, share stories!

My Rock Band 2 character is an exact likeness of me. I tried to make him look cool... maybe thats just how I see myself...

I don't like making my characters look like me because I like to fool around and start doing stuff I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be doing that stuff in real life. Plus I don't look too special.

It really depends on the game. Some games, if the facial editor is good enough, I'll try to make a likeness of myself. But since most games don't include great editors, I mainly stick to screwing around with it until I make someone who just looks cool or badass.

Nope. I never make a game character look at all like myself mainly because I use a different persona for every genre. Maybe I just don't like playing a black guy.

I make them look like Yahtzee.

????????????????????????:0

Joking, of course, but I tend to make my characters look like other characters, such as Snake or Cloud. Then I start making other characters look like me. Then I start making them look like people or characters I hate and keep getting them killed. Cheaper than hiring a Hitman anyway.( Yep, I made a character out of him too =) )

I have this habit as well, but only for sporting games.
I think Sony could have done a lot more linking the eye toy with sports games. Take 4 pictures: Facial front on, right profile, left profile and behind head. The facial recognition then renders you into the games graphic models.
I find my understanding of my own face doesnt translate when i try to represent myself, the result always being a bit off.
Who wouldnt want to get a bunch of mates together and play multiplayer games with Avatars that looked like them.

I once took a fairly detailed quiz, answering honestly, to find out what D+D character represented me best. A level 8 Neutral Good Ranger. I forget where i got the link from. Probably the Escapist.

Funny - I get so bored playing yet another white person, I always go for black characters when I can. I keep the female gender - not sure if that's more because I am female or because I like watching female backsides move more.

Unless something like a monster is available. Then I play that because being a monster is just awesome.

Every time I start a new MMORPG I do that. >_>

...And I always use the name Ramona Flashheart for some reason.
Okay, so it's not totally me, more like a wish fulfillment of how I'd look in a fantasy world. You know, less mannish and able to both afford and wear multi-million-platinum armor in varying shades of purple, reading forbidden texts with one hand and blasting the undead with another.

Then I always go and give them a completely separate story which leaves me with the uncomfortable feeling that I just made some sort of author avatar Sue...
Luckily with my latest character, I made her an obsessive-compulsive wuss (...okay, still not too different than me) and had her have triplets out of wedlock with her best friend (which makes up for it by being as far from my mannersisms as possible).

It's kinda the opposite for me on that one: I will ALWAYS be human - or close to it - if at all possible. My friend once set up a "monsters-only" D&D campaign, and I went with a shape shifter because it looked the most human. Pretty boring, I know.

I'm a short fat guy with long hair, its actually exceedingly difficult to make my avatars look like me.

"Your avatar has run 9 meters, you must rest"... doesn't sound that fun for me, so no. Even then, very few games actually allow you to make fat nerdy characters.

I'm a half goth haired Asian. I have never seen a game that will let me make this and I probably never will seeing I'm getting bored of games. Damn teenage hormones, nothing is interesting anymore except for the opposite sex >.<.
So anyway, I just make my characters with black and white striped tuxedo's and emo make up and call it a day. And if a hat is available, I will use it.

That would be pretty hilarious for the first few hours though.

I would make an attempt to create my likeness, but there's never the right hairstyle to make it really look like me (as "What the hell is a hairstyle? I just woke up like this" isn't usually an option in character creation)

There's also never the option to have both a chef hat and a ninja mask, if at all, it's always one or the other.

I'm a very big believer in a Nice Hat. I'm wearing a Boston Red Sox cap right now and I feel naked without it.
