What was that game called... The protagonist had a black suit with sort of a long beak-cannon thing on the helmet and there were weapons like "the worlds most interesting bomb" that made enemies go up to it and examine it until it exploded. I believe the name was a three-letter acronym.

Anyways, the people who made that game ^^

Blizzard, even though they went down the dark path of mmorpgs. They are just so uncompromising, they don't release something until they feel it's ready, and they are big enough that their distributor doesn't hassle them. I bet they know that any other distributor is prepared to give them all the time in the world for a chance to release their games ^^

Quartet for Actraiser and the Gaia-trilogy, or whatever it is really called. You know, Soul Blazer, Illusion of Gaia and Terranigma. Oh, how I wish for an Actraiser 3 ~~

Some of the Microsoft-owned studios, before the times of such utter fanboyism for games such as Halo, were really quite legendary. Teams like Anvil, who developed Freelancer, and Ensemble Studies really made high-quality games and then stuck by that standard when moving online. ESOnline for Age of Mythology was one of the greatest match-making and community-focused schemes far beyond its time. Both of these companies mentioned are now bust and the members went to work on other projects, of course, yet their legacy still remains.

Rare have always held a special place in my heart, especially following Banjo Kazooie (even moreso than their FPSes). These guys really cannot go wrong, from huge racing games (Diddy Kong Racing, anyone?) to epic, story-based platformers (BK and BT) to wonderful shooters (Conker, Goldeneye, Perfect Dark). Not only do they excel at every genre, but they are able to pull it off with great humour too.

I won't get into an EA debate except to say that if you look at my choice for developers I love you'll see that EA has little if anything to do with them aside from funding.

Mythic Entertainment (now EA Mythic) has a really passionate bunch of folks who want to make good games. I have fond memories of DAoC but I also saw the way they were visibly out there and talking with the community. Where many games have 1 or 2 individuals that have their hands in interacting with the community, Mythic has at least 6 or 7 prominent folks from the development team that are "out in the field". They have a great human face attached to their company as a result and it shows in the upcoming Warhammer MMO they are releasing.

I believe that you're thinking of M.D.K. made by Shiny Entertainment. Just realized that these are the same guys who made Sacrifice...yeah SHINY FTW!

favourites: Free radical and Valve.
Although neither of them release games very frequently, there games are (with the exception of Second Sight which was ok) always great.

Least favourite: EA.

They release the same shit every year and still get great sales. They're one of the reasons why great, more risky games like "psychonauts", "ico", "okami" and "beyond good and evil" don't sell well.
It's ironic that they call themselves "electronic arts", there's absolutely nothing artistic about there work.

I hate Activision because they (I think.....) let MTV fuck them up and they completely fucked up Guitar Hero 3 which doesn't even remotely resemble the original game, both in quality and content.
Actually, MTV was always involved with Guitar Hero.

Another Game Developer i thought of: Red Orb Entertainment. Warlords 3, i found that game really addictive for a Turn Based Strategy.

Valve, for making the best online shooter ever, two of the best shooters ever, and the best shooter stories ever.

Relic, for bringing true originality to the RTS table, with such games as Impossible Creatures (at least they tried something new), Dawn of War (WAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH!), and Company of Heroes (very awesome game).

Monolith, for giving us such goofy titles as No One Lives Forever 1 & 2, and for the slow-mo mayhem that is FEAR.

Rockstar, for the Max Payne series, the inventors of bullet-time, and some truly epic shootouts.

Epic, for Unreal Tournament 99 (my personal favorite Tourny), and my first gaming experience ever, Jazz Jackrabbit.

I love Relic Entertainment for 2 reasons:
1: They're Canadian. Vancouverites, no less. :D
2: The few games they've made have all been Absoloutly marvelous! Homeworld, Dawn of War, Company of Heroes!
Well, not so much Impossible Creatures, but- Adgkhle- Shut Up!

I can't believe that no one has mentioned Double Fine Productions or just Tim Schafer himself. One of the last bastions of creative and original thinking in the gaming industry.

Double Fine too, because of Tim Shaefer ^^
