I just finished watching my friend beat Archam city, which I already thought wasn't as good as the first, but great none the less.

You beat clayface, who turns out was the "healthy" Joker all along. Descently clever twist, but after the battle, Batman stops the Joker from immortality by throwing a sword into a machine (long story). An explosion happened, and the Joker taunted Batman that he would still give him the cure Batman had drank half of. He than stabbed Batman in the ARM THAT WAS HOLDING THE CURE, and Batman dropped it. They exchanged two lines, and the Joker just died in the position a Joker would be on most playing cards.

Batman carries the body out from the jail, ignoring all questions, and just dumps the body on a police car. That was it.

That is how they ended the longest running Joker, Mark Hamill's masterful clown that had been playing since Batman: TAS. Could they not find some BETTER way to end him? It wasn't that they totally ran out of money for one last boss fight or more content since they HAD AN EPILOGUE.

I for one believe it was all part of Joker's plan.

He knew that Batman would most likely stop him from gaining immortality, thought Batman's morals would still make him cure the Joker before slamming him behind bars.

The Joker, realizing this, allowed Batman to destroy the Lazarus Pit, spewing the life-bringing liquid into the underground sewers, waterways, and crazy ancient catacombs of Gotham City. Joker then destroyed the cure purposefully, knowing full well he would die. After that, Batman brought him out of Arkham City himself and left his body there.

I believe Harley knew of this plan from the start, and what is going to happen is.
1. She will first get the Joker's corpse.
2. They will bring Joker back to life using the Lazarus.
3. Joker will wreak total havoc on Gotham, and it will be poetic when Batman learns that it was because of him that the Joker is free again. He did exactly what the Joker planned for him to do.

That's my two cents.

Anyway, the ending for Shadow of the Colossus pissed me off. I felt totally jipped, talk about a blue-balls moment. I spent something like twelve...sixteen hours fighting monsters the size of skyscrapers, and what happens?

I helplessly watch as my character gets pwnd by some old bastard and his men before being turned into a Fucking. Baby.

I don't give a damn about your symbolism! I just killed sixteen gigantic beasts to raise my girlfriend/wife/sister from the dead! So you turn me into a BABY?!

The only ending that comes to mind is the ending of Onimusha 2. My god.

As for your example, it could be made forgivable if they made but one minor change.
Had Batman dragged Joker's carcass by the cloth of his collar out of the building as opposed to carrying him lovingly in his arms, I would have thought far better of it. He's a murderous, remorseless psychopath who does not deserve the reverence he receives. He's exceedingly well characterized by both the writing and the acting, certainly, but his death is not a tragedy; it is a blessing.

You know batman has a thing against killing right? That was not a victory for batman since joker died . Look at it from his perspective , he basically failed .

OT: that ruined the game ? No really , i have had my share of dissapointing endings though . Maybe the closes to ruining the game is dragon age 2 . I mean comon thats it? Really? Seems a little rusbed to me .

OH WAIT! Yes fable 2 ending killed the game and the entired series for me . Never am i going to play another fable NEVER.

Well at least his girlfriend came back to life. That was the ultimate goal of the game right?

:p

OT: I have to say, the first Bioshock's endings were incredibly short and abrupt. They didn't ruin the game for me though.

closest i can think or would be Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth ending A, the 'best' ending

why? cause it was Lenneth and Lucian kissing -.- that was literally the whole ending, they run up and kiss.

only thing that saved it, is the PATH to that ending, which, come to think of it is probably why the ending it self sucked, they kinda covered everything ending-ish, before the final battle

I got the same horrible taste in my mouth after God of War II as I did after watching Pirates of the Carribean II. The "I don't care how awesome it was, you made me pay money to experience a giant trailer for a sequel!" bitterness.

Minion's ending in Twisted Metal: Black was slightly less disappointing. While everyone else (even the other bit players) had a definitive story, all you got out of him without a decoder ring during the loading screens was a three-second cutscene of his taillights fading into the distance.

Come to think of it, a lot of sixth-generation console game endings were disappointing. See if you can guess which game this summarizes: Main character finally beats the main villain, female support character gives congratulations, one of the two suddenly remembers there's an even bigger thing to fight, and a hasty "TO BE CONTINUED..." screen is thrown up.
Too goddamn many. The most infuriating for me was Marc Ecko's Getting Up. I know, I know, but there was definitely the potential for a look at political corruption and grassroots rebellions, especially interesting considering this was pre-Occupy. Instead, we got the hero walking away from his stereotypical love interest without so much as a congratulatory kiss before he's off to right wrongs in a never to be materialized sequel.

Also, inFamous: Festival of Blood. I was not expecting epic storytelling from what was essentially a Halloween-themed level pack, but for spaghetti monster's sake, man...

First of all, chronic hydrophobe Cole MacGrath is convinced to steal a woman away from Zeke after she offers to show him tricks in a hot tub. Accepting the fact that he's been turned down by the hot girl he's been chatting up for the game (Like SoT-era Prince of Persia, only more stupid), Zeke goes back to his alcohol and his comics. Hot girl gets his attention, flashes red eyes and fangs, audible "OH SHI--", roll credits.

Silent Hill: Homecomings
(Yeah I'm gonna ***** about this game some more.)

It's safe to say I wasn't really a fan of this title...the words "egregious betrayal of the core concept" may have slipped from betwixt my lips on more than one occasion.

If I'm being perfectly honest I could have passed the whole thing off as simply mediocre if it hadn't been for the completely abysmal ending.

The whole game revolves around the God of Silent Hill making a deal with the four founding families of the town of Shepherd's Glen which requires them to sacrifice their children in order to keep the evil of Silent Hill at bay.

(The established timeline of events in Silent Hill makes this plot impossible to begin with but that's a rant for another time)

It's driven home several times that your little brother was the favored child of your family and you spend the entire time trying to find him since he's gone missing. You keep hearing "One of the families failed to complete the sacrifice" blah blah blah.

The "twist" ending is that you took your little brother out on a trip onto the lake and he fell out of the boat and drowned which caused you to go crazy.
That's it...it's the poor man's Silent Hill 2.
Why bother with all that interpersonal motivation and torment bullshit, let's just have the evil entity haunt the town because little Timmy hasn't got his sea legs.

Game was quite fun but the hell guys. I'm not gonna talk about it because anyone who played it will know what I mean.

Neverwinter nights 2
i can't do the spoiler tags but the game is pretty old now anyway.
The fact that no matter what you do you have to kill at least 1 of your companions in the final battle.

I think they set up a Batman Beyond game with the whole
Jokers baby
thing. Bruce would get old waiting for it to grow up.

OT: For me it had to be God of War III. Not the actual ending, that was perfect, but after the credits. HE DIED! HE WAS GOOD! Vengeance done, gods killed, and it told a great story relating to the world today. Even if your life seems to be in ruins, there's always hope. And then the fucker gets back up. I hope he's retired on a tropical island somewhere.

While it didn't ruin the game for me, yeah, Borderlands had a crappy ending, but I kinda liked it since I sorta love being trolled. I mean, it's Borderlands, it's not a very serious game.

Dragon Age II's ending bothered me for a multitude of reasons, and FYI, I'm one of the few that loved Dragon Age II.

I can't think of any games where I disliked the ending enough for it to ruin the whole game though...

I was actually moved by that ending-imagine that! I felt sad because an insane mass-murderer was dead!

Worst ending for me? Far Cry 2 or "Hey player, everything you did in the game was fucking irrelevent and you might as well just have tanned yourself at the beach!"

Apollo Justice's ending, well not the ending itself exactly that was alright, but the trial running up to it.

Two piss easy presents then you get to choose the good or bad ending, no epic battle of wills? No final showdown? Well, as good a final showdown as you'd get with Klavier anyway. I like his character but well... He's too nice for a prosecutor.

And don't go on about the trial being unwinnable because of the current justice system, that's fine but surely they could have made it longer and more difficult.

Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy had the most ridiculous final quarter of any game I've ever played. So it's a nice adventure game along the lines of the later Broken Sword games; lots of spooky crap happening, possession etc.

<spoiler=Spoiler>Eventually, it becomes evident that there are 2 separate factions messing with you. One is occult-y. That's cool. The other is the internet. I'm not even kidding.

The Longest Journey 2 : The Dreamfall.

It ends in cliffhanger but not your typical "or do they... ?" way.
It cries "next season coming soon" and despite years passing there's no continuation. :|
