Must say Final fantasy 9 is one of those games.

Not really the ending as such, but the Last Boss. It made no sense to the story and fealt tacked on...
I always liked the theory that they did this deliberately to parody the 'Giant Space Flea from Nowhere' trope that was apparently getting more and more popular in jRPGs at the time.

Officially he represents the antithesis of Zidane's desire to live. Zidane breaks down halfway through the game, spends the rest of it deciding to live, and then right at the end he fights the literal embodiment of death. In Japanese Necron's name translates as 'The Eternal Darkness.' He was a thematic final boss, not a character.

I always hated the ending of [PROTOTYPE] personally. Of course, I also hated the rest of the entire game, so it wasn't that surprising.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadows Of Chernobyl. The first (and so far, only) time I finished it... Well... I got crushed by the freaking roof... I WANT MY WISH DAMMIT!

A bit silly to die because of the roof. Mutants? No. Super-armored soldiers? Nope. Radioactivity deluxe? Nich. A roof? Obviously yes for some inexplicit reason... I wanted my wish T_T I would have wished for clean underwear :p

You did it wrong.

The actual last area is behind a locked door that you had to be fairly thorough in your "dungeon" looting to find the key that unlocked the room to the device that unlocked the door. But behind it was a absolutely epic end level and ended was a very satisfying cut scene. Ranks up in my top 3 of all time.

My pick is Little Nemo: Adventures in Slumberland. Not even going to spoiler tag this since those who played it probably know, and those who haven't probably never will. Anyhow, get to the last boss, smack him down, get told he isn't dead and I get sent back to stage 1 sans scepter of uberness. Que my 7 or 8 year old self going into rage. Still pisses me off to this day.

Dragon Age: Origins

It wasn't the ending of the story that pissed me off though. It was the end credits.

More specifically, 30 Seconds to Mars. What the fuck was that bullshit doing in the game?
It doesn't help that they play the song TWICE during the credits. :(
Twice? Christ, no wonder it seemed to last fuckin' FOREVER.
It really did. The normal LoTR style song that played between them was good... but were unfortunately drowned out by horror that is 30 Seconds to Mars.

Borderlands, it came out of nowhere and before I knew it the credits were rolling. Was a damn shame because the rest of the game was very enjoyable.

I would argue that that's the whole point of Drakengard's endings. "Well, that ending was depressing. Maybe the next one will be better. Oh shit, what? What just happened? THAT WAS EVEN MORE HORRIBLE AND NOW I AM EVEN MORE DEPRESSED." But then, I love Drakengard despite its flaws, so I'm biased and you are not at all obligated to agree with me. ;)
That makes sense, so long as their intent was to prevent us from purchasing the sequel. Mission accomplished, there.

The Longest Journey 2 : The Dreamfall.

It ends in cliffhanger but not your typical "or do they... ?" way.
It cries "next season coming soon" and despite years passing there's no continuation. :|
I love The Longest Journey, and I love... err... the story of Dreamfall: The Longest Journey. Really sad to see the series end as it did. Doesn't help that Funcom, as talented as they are, haven't been as successful as they should with their other games either.

Deus Ex HR, nothing. No combination of events. No play-style. Prior to the end will change anything whatsoever. A video monologue based on which button you push..... meh.
And that's what makes the ending beautiful, in my opinion. So deliciously cyberpunk.

They could have at least shown some consequence. In Oblivion, you get a massive final battle in the middle of Imperial City, fighting your way through hundreds of enemies, trying desperately to get to the end point. In Skyrim, it's one boss fight where you have immortal help, and it's over.
Hmm, I understand where you're coming from there. I get what you mean, after all, we all expect a massive fuck-off battle between hundreds of enemies at the climax of every fantasy-genre piece (we can thank Lord of the Rings for that). But I get why they orchestrated the final battle the way they did; it's supposed to be a fight between two larger-than-life entities, the Dragon and the Dragon-Born, beyond the reaches of the mortal realm. You are the one person who has the ability and the right to fight for the future of the entire realm alongside legendary warriors of Skyrim's past against an evil as old as time itself.

Except that these legendary warrior gets shown exactly once beforehand. They could at least have had some statues around Skyrim, displaying these legendary dragon-hunters. And after Oblivion you get a statue of yourself put up in Bruma. How come the Dragonborn doesn't get any recognition?

I guess it's meant to be the game's way of showing that these heroes have fallen into obscurity in the light of the centuries of war that passed since then, and considering the only people who know you stop Alduin are either a) reclusive monks, b) an underground organisation on the run from Tamriel's Nazi-Elf overlords, or c) other Dragons, I think it's kind of understandable not many people are aware of your deed.

Saw 2: Flesh and Blood. The story was pretty good, apart from the Flesh ending.
Campbell sacrifices Michael to make his own escape, and sees Jigsaw standing at the exit to congratulate him, and tell him his son is waiting for him. However, he becomes angry, and attempts to attack Jigsaw. He is killed as a hidden blade falls on him, making the whole game pointless. Both main characters are dead, everyone you've saved is dead, Jigsaw's alive and we never find out who Pighead was.

Meh, Batman's more of a villain than anything else anyways (albeit unintentionally). I liked the ending to Arkham City, because it perfectly highlighted just how hilariously bad a "hero" he is.

The best moment in Batman's history is when he was turned into a vampire and killed all of Arkham's supervillains. Yes, all of them.

OT: For me, it's Borderlands. Fucking hell, I do ALL THAT and am promised SO MUCH and I get LESS THAN SHIT as a reward? Fuck off, game.
i thought the ending was okay. cl4p tr4p was a pretty unexpected ending.

also seeing cthulu stab that person(what's here name) was an extra bonus

*Super spoiler warning ahead, warning plot details may follow*

I think for me the total game breaker of a game was the ending to drawn to live 2 completely killed EVERYTHING in that game; they killed your sense of purposeof why the fuck you beat both games just to find out your parents are dead and your comatose, they killed any hope of a sequel by killing off every charecter in the game (yes, EVERY single charecter good and bad) and worse of all they made you destroy everything by your own hand. I seriously want to smack the creator that game silly.

Oo, an opportunity to moan about it at last?
Final Fantasy VII. Granted it was only because their budget ran out, but seriously. What even happened in it? Nothing actually happened in the ending. You don't even see whether or not the meteor actually got destroyed. And there was no aftermath whatsoever. I love aftermaths. Me sad.

With me it's vice versa. I love TLJ1s story but couldn't stand some of its puzzles. For example this trick with monkey and its shadow...

It's because of such things i really can't enjoy some of most critically acclaimed games of this genre. :|

Nier's ending both completely made and completely ruined the game. It was amazingly well-done and symbolic and really, really jarring, a phenomenon of narrative if you ask me.

On the other hand, I hate downer endings. What do you mean I kill off EVERY MAJOR CHARACTER, and if I work extra hard to get the Super Ending, it ends up with ME DYING FOREVER?
