Hey friends, I am a long time gamer across all platforms not named wii and PS3, but I am stumped on which game to get my girlfriend. She has some free time this summer, and is wasting it playing facebook games when she could be enjoying a nice RPG or something far better than an fbook game.

Requirements:
-Released for PC
-Non subscription
-low running requirements/doesn't need top of the line processor and graphics card.

I was thinking of something along the lines of the Sims/Animal Crossing, as she seems to like things like that. However, IMO those games are super boring, and I thought you guys, being the experts you are, could point me towards some good ideas. RPGs or games like Civilization/Rome(Rome is like 10 bucks on steam, Civilization is like 20-40) with heavy replayability/customization and an easy difficulty curve also seem like a good idea.

Thanks guys

You know what she likes but you want to buy her something different? Just because you find it boring doesn't mean she will.

Animal Crossing. Even I enjoy it. If she's gonna enjoy it, don't force something else on her because you find those games "super boring".

Nobody can not like Katamari Damacy, but alas, we have no PC release that I know of. There was a knockoff version on Reflexive, I think, called The Beautiful End of the World.

Does she actually want to play 'real' games? Just because she plays a few Facebook apps doesn't mean she is ready to become a social leper like the rest of us.

Previous statement notwithstanding, The Sims seems like an obvious choice.

I honestly have never understood people searching for "girlfriend games" if your girlfriend is a gamer then she should have preferences on types of games. If she is not a gamer, then there aren't "girlfriend games". If anything there are casual games that any non-gamer could play to kill time which is what it sounds like you are looking for. Games like Sims (and all the various Sim games) is what I would recommend.

Bingo. Don't force games on her that she won't want to play. Just buy games you know she'll like, and if she actually wants to play something else, you can always get something different for her. I want to buy The Sims 3 personally and my girlfriend really wants to play it too. Thats next on my list of games to get for her...and me =P

Is there an animal crossing for PC in some form? If not, is The Sims 2 as good as the new and expensive Sims 3? Has any1 here played Rome/Civilization and how good are they?

She doesn't really have any video game experience and I am just kind of guessing she would like the Sims type games. Any more suggestions and some explanations please?

Arx Fatalis looks like a good idea because it is 5 bucks on steam. She can try it and if she doesnt like it ill try the more sims route, or conversely a more FF route.

Thanks for the suggestions guys keep going~!

and im not sure how nerdy she is... hopefully nerdy enough to enjoy RPGs with me

The Orange Box or Viva Pinata. You can spend a lot of time in both, but Viva Pinata isn't "hardcore" or anything if she isn't into those types of games.

Edit: From reading your most recent post, I would say Viva Pinata would be great for her. It's on the computer, is pretty much Sims just with pinatas, and is very enjoying to look at.

Try games like Age of Empires, StarCraft, and the like if they interest her. If she likes RPGs and MMOs, I would try something along the lines of Guild Wars(MMORPG, no subscription fees) or Morrowind/Oblivion.

Get her Mount and Blade.

She can create a female character, go shopping for food and clothes, plus it has ponies in it.

She can wile away the long summer days galloping around on her virtual pony, throwing axes into looter's heads, impaling bandits with javelins and lances, or just cutting down hapless sea raiders with her bastard sword.

Honestly, it's some of the best cheap gaming fun anyone could have on the PC, regardless of gender. Also depending on how powerful her PC is, she could download some of the many mods to make it look very nice, of change the setting of the game completely.
