I've been thinking about the Final Fantasy games and how I'd like to try some of them. Other franchises I'd like to get into are The Legend of Zelda and Mass Effect series. So I was wondering what other games people might want to play. I'm probably forgetting some, maybe some of the suggestions will jog my memory. (Flirting with fighting games)

Future knowledge addition (thank you shrekfan246): Reasons might be because they were exclusives, a sudden interest in the series, you're trying to play them again or because of their acclaim.

Do you mean games that we don't have a chance to play, maybe because they're on a different console than whatever we own, or games we were never interested in previously but recently have been getting more and more interested in? Or games that we've tried before and figure we should like more than we do, or just have never played but figure we would enjoy?

As far as the first one goes, the only "modern" consoles I don't own are the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U, so not a whole lot there.

As far as the second goes, I've been really getting into BlazBlue lately. I'm not big on 2D fighting games, mostly because I'm absolutely terrible at the combos and cancels and convoluted confusing crap and I miss the simplicity of Dragonball Z Budokai 3. But the story of BlazBlue is very compelling and the characters are highly amusing, which makes it a very enjoyable experience.

As far as the third goes, Prince of Persia. More specifically the Sands of Time trilogy. I should like it, the parkour and time-control mechanics are really fun, but the boring, repetitive and quite frankly far too lengthy combat just really kills it all for me.

And for the last, probably Mario Galaxy. I've never been a huge fan of Mario, having grown up on Sonic instead, but I acknowledge that they're generally very well-made games, and there's something compelling about Galaxy in particular that makes it seem more interesting than 64 or Sunshine. But I've never played it. Go figure.

I'm a bit frustrated that I never played any Zelda game (even though I owned a SNES). Ocarina of Time, specifically. It was a big thing for the most part of my childhood but having never owned an N64 I was unable to partake in it. Same with Final Fantasy VII - I own a PS and yet for some reason I never picked that up. It seems I never stop catching up to good old classics, there's always something I'm missing.

I want to try the Bioshock games, and probably will soon. Also I might look into the Borderlands games when 2 gets a bit cheaper.

I have Fallout: New Vegas on Steam. I keep meaning to get into it, but I just never seem to find the time. And now after the winter sale I still have 3 games I haven't played to add to the list, so I don't know when I'll finally get to it.

Really any of the iconic Nintendo games from days past, Mario and Zelda and others like them... Not even just the classic ones but also their current iterations.

The thing is I didn't seriously embrace gaming as a hobby until around about three years ago and I pretty much started on the PS3. I've enjoyed some older games on PS1 and through some HD collections but I'd really like to see what all the fuss is about with those classic Nintendo games...

Are you playing SoT? Battles there tended to drag on but they picked up the pace in the following two games, as I recall.

OT: S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - I want to have more free time before I start playing the games, since they are open world-y (sort of) and I'd like to just take my time with them. But since I am...temporally constrained, I am waiting for later.

Dwarf Fortress - similar to above - I just want to be able to take my time with it. I played it for a bit a while ago, I started picking up the controls but then I stopped playing it (can't recall why, though). So, again, I'm waiting for later.

Ultima - I plan on eventually getting the games off GOG and having a go through them.

Gothic - it's weird, I've been meaning to play these for years now, and I've had them with me for quite some time, yet I am either playing something else, or I mean to start playing something else, or I don't have the CDs, hence I have to play something else. I have the games on Steam now, so hopefully, I'll be able to avoid the last situation.

Well, yes, I wanted to experience it in order if I were going to actually play the games, since the games are ostensibly story-focused.

And unless they made the battles not wave-based and require that stupid dagger stab to actually finish off enemies, I can't see how them being faster paced would make them less boring or repetitive. Seems to be a recurring issue with Ubisoft, actually...

I agree with the fighting game genre. I would LOVE to get into that more. I have Skull Girls which I absolutely adore, but I don't think many people play it more, nor is it really used for competitive play.

I would say Visual Novels, but thanks to Trauma Center: Second Opinion (fun game, only 4 bucks!) and Katawa Shoujo, I have successfully fallen in love with that series. Would "To The moon" be considered a VN as well?

Anyways, I would like to get into the more... weird genre of Baulder's Gate/Fallout 1, 2. Whatever those were called, Isometric RPGS, I think?
CRPGs. A bit of a misnomer, really, but what can you do.

I've actually been interested in Skull Girls too, so there's one I hadn't thought of originally that you reminded me about. How is it (obviously you enjoy it, so what is it that makes it enjoyable to you)?

And Visual Novels are one that I would have to agree on. The ones I've read, I've liked, but it's not really something that I actively search out when I'm looking for something new to get into.

I've never properly played a mech fighting game and Armored Core 5 seems to be one of the last ones of its dying breed...

Also I'd love to get Forza 4 and/or Serious Sam: BFE. I've been stuck playing modern shooters for too long and Skyrim can only get you so much reprieve.

I loved the "story" of the characters, the world they built, the art-style, the animation, the sound design. Plus the characters were all varied and there weren't basic "copies" of other characters like in Dragon Ball Z or some of the Street Fighters.
I actually have Skull Girls as well, I finished the tutorial but kinda left it alone after a few story mode run throughs. I should probably get back to it because it's really good.

Anime and 3D fighters. I suck so hard at those games. I tried BB but i got into that too late and got wrecked online. I also tried SCV and couldn't wrap my head around the 3D . So i stick to street fighter and Marvel.

Yeah, it's better afterwards. I don't think you even had to do the dagger stab, although you did have the dagger. That's what dragged the combat down to begin with.

I guess I need to try to get back into FPS games. Fucking weird how many of them i've played over the years yet recently i've played like... Dishonoured. That's practically it. A few hours of Halo 4, 2 hours of Borderlands 2, some Killing Floor (which i've stopped playing due to shit frame rate and lack of gingerbread men) and that's it.

I think i'm just bored of the genre... Maybe just because nothing too innovative has happened to it for ages. It's not like I dislike it or anything, I just find no reason to get up and play one.

It's not like say, UMVC3 where I can randomly think "shit... I REALLY need to go and make a Vergil comeback now. RIGHT NOW" Seriously, why can't I duplicate team members? Vergil, Vergil and Vergil. Maybe some X-23 in there too.

The search for a third team member continues... Morrigan is pretty much the closest thing I have to one apart from Phoenix and I want a secondary team without him. Sometimes I just want to chill without worrying about evidence and shit.

Morrigan must have the WORST base damage ever... Maybe i'm just used to Vergil but come on. I have a half swaggy relaunch combo that can end with 2 supers and it does fuck all. Meanwhile, Vergil's 11 hit Day One combo does literally half someone's health.

Swag is overrated.

If you asked me a year or so ago I would have streamed off all the games I played this year. I'm into some Visual Novels, some older PS2 games, i'm too far gone into LoL and I actually got into fighting games which is fucking bizarre.

I got super-duper Street Fighter 4 for arcades on PC during the last Steam sale, and by God, that game has a 90 degree learning curve. I also had my eye on Skullgirls, but it hasn't been released for PC yet (sadface).

Hitbox Games (the guys who made Dustforce) are working on a new FPS that was announced recently called Spire [http://hitboxteam.com/mystery-and-mastery], and it's looking pretty interesting. If you're complaining about the lack of innovation, then I say you should read the linked blog post.

halo
I kinda liked halo 1 on pc but Microsoft didn't want me to play the other titles.

whatever you call games like lol or dota 2
I wanted to get into those because i really liked the original dota but the amount of items and heroes and the supposedly hostile environments makes me really not want to invest dozens of hours of not having fun. I think I even own dota 2 on steam but I still can't be bothered to install it.

I tried a bit of Borderlands, but I didn't like the gameplay all that much. I'm finding myself drawn to Borderlands 2, so I may try it once the complete edition comes out.

I have also never played Jak 2 or 3. I loved the first one, so I guess I can get the HD collection.
