I wanted to play Metro 2033 but for some reason my xbox went mental whenever I tried to play it, but with Last Light coming out I'll gve it another try.

As a youngun I never owned a GameCube and always regretted never playing Pokemon Colosseum, might try and pick one up on the cheapp over the summer.

Finally I've never played any Persona or ChronoTrigger games, hadn't heard of them before here, to be honest. Anyone who's played them, should I start at number 1 or are there particularly good ones to play?

Always wanted to get into playing adventure games as I think of them as more sophisticated :p Just a pity I'm shit at them. I find Secret of Monkey Island hard...and I'm told it's not difficult at all...

I'd say #1 on the list would have to be the Serious Sam series. In all due seriousness, how could any shooter fan not want to give a look at something like this?

There's also the Jak and Daxter series. All I got to do was play some of the first level from the original game. And I've only played a demo to one of the more recent Ratchet & Clank games; another series I want to play so much. Same with an inFAMOUS 2 demo. I had a blast with that and want to get both games. Sly Cooper looks like fun. In fact, let's go further into stealth. I really wanna try to Metal Gear games. And I wonder what Splinter Cell and the recent Batman games are like?

As far as the second goes, I've been really getting into BlazBlue lately. I'm not big on 2D fighting games, mostly because I'm absolutely terrible at the combos and cancels and convoluted confusing crap and I miss the simplicity of Dragonball Z Budokai 3. But the story of BlazBlue is very compelling and the characters are highly amusing, which makes it a very enjoyable experience.
Did you ever try Persona 4 Arena? The main series is JRPGs, but Arena's a fighting game of it that came out recently. That'd be my recommendation, unless you've already played it. I've enjoyed it so far, despite the fact that I cannot play these types of games well.

And for the last, probably Mario Galaxy. I've never been a huge fan of Mario, having grown up on Sonic instead, but I acknowledge that they're generally very well-made games, and there's something compelling about Galaxy in particular that makes it seem more interesting than 64 or Sunshine. But I've never played it. Go figure.
Oh, yep. If the first Galaxy is a bit too easy for you when you start, go play Galaxy 2. Such fun Mario goodiness.

whatever you call games like lol or dota 2
I wanted to get into those because i really liked the original dota but the amount of items and heroes and the supposedly hostile environments makes me really not want to invest dozens of hours of not having fun. I think I even own dota 2 on steam but I still can't be bothered to install it.
MOBA. Or Massively Online Battle Arena. For DOTA (2; I've never played the first), I recommend you take your time learning the heroes, practice against bots, and play with your friends. It will take some time to learn (give it 1 or 2 matches), but it's really fun once you understand what's going on.

I haven't interacted with the community yet, but from what I heard, you'll be fine as long as you don't run off doing something stupid.

OT- I've never played a true Hack and Slash game. I'm afraid of picking up Bayonetta as I'll be ridiculed to heaven for it, and I'm not interested in showing the people around me that I may be insane by playing God of War.

Rogue-likes also deserve a mention. I've tried Nethack, but for some reason I uninstalled it. I did like the experience and the rather witty ways the game interacts with you.

And... Dwarf Fortress. People have called it a Minecraft that has a steep learning curve and ASCII graphics that somehow manages to be more addicting that Minecraft. That is, if you can understand the game and what it's telling you.

Dead Space, Final Fantasy, and Resident Evil are the three series that come to mind for me.

My buddy has Dead Space 1 and 2, while I own FF 3 and RE 4 and I really want to get into them but I just can't. I really want to experience Dead Space because I've heard a lot of good things but have spent maybe a total of 10 minutes playing the 2 games.

I haven't yet, actually, but you're not the first person to recommend it. I'm actually a huge fan of Persona 4 ever since I played Golden on the Vita, so it goes right along with my interests anyway.

I guess I've gotta go throw some more money at people...

For Chrono Trigger, it's a standard JRPG with a really, really good story and characters. Take your time and explore all the places.

I've never touched the main Persona games, but I've that beginners should start with Persona 3. Don't take my word for it, but that's what I've heard. I'm so close to getting myself a copy of Persona 3 as someone recommended it to me before Persona 4.

I'd really like to get into Thief and that series but it seems like I would need to get over my phobia of PC gaming. It looks like there is only one Thief game on a console and it seems to be the not-as-great one on the Xbox. Not that I dislike the console of course. I also really wanna get into this gen's PS3 exclusives but I'm already on my way to making that happen.

Halo and Gears of War. I dunno, I'm not big on FPS but I've always been curious about those two.

Get Dragon Age: Origins and play it on Normal. It's challenging but not frustratingly hard. The combat is easy once you get the hang of it. I didn't exactly configure every aspect of the combat and I did fine. You just gotta tell your characters what skills to learn and they'll do it themselves (Unless you wanna control them all). It's sort of like a simple FFXII, if you've played that. If not, then it's still easy if you get the hang of it. it practically plays itself.

Just remember to save often, be well prepared before going anywhere and not to rush into battle...unless you think you can handle that. And have a well balanced team; mage, warrior, rogue, etc. (Don't worry, your characters all level up even if you're not using them. mass experience or something).

It has a great story and great characters and many endings. You should give it a shot!

Cheers, realised I had £50 in my amazon account from christmas so now I've finished uni exams I decided to buy Persona 3 and 4 as well as Chrono Trigger. Also picked up the DS golden sun game, I remember having tons of fun on the original about 10 years ago.

I want to try the PNP RPG game Cyberpunk 2020, to prepare myself for Cyberpunk 2077 that i get the feeling I'll be a big fan of. I've found some descriptions on the web for it, classes and skills, but the book for the game is $500 on Amazon because it's been out of print since the 80's. So um, yeah. Though I've found some of the hard core fans of the original Cyberpunk, throwing a bit of a fit because they don't want newbies and fake nerds getting into their sacred stuff. It doesn't sound like those guys are too happy about the video game coming out.

I guess at the moment that would be the Mass Effect series. Sure I got the triliogy boxset last Christmas but I haven't really got into the game since so far nothing interesting had pulled me into it (and the fact I more interest investing my time playing my other games).

Red Dead Redemption. I love Horse Operas so it would seem a natural fit for me...but Rockstar broke their PC promise, leaving me no way to play the game.
Similarly I'd like to play some of thatgamecompany's games but lack the means to do so.

I keep on putting off getting back into 2D fighters, the only problem is that I've no interest in Capcoms 2.5D fighters which are popular, and the 2D fighters I would be interested playing online are dead in Europe.

Infact as a whole Europe sucks for fighters, there just doesn't seem to be any sizable gaming communities unlike in the US.

EDIT atleast on the 360, dunno how it is on the PS3

Metal gear solid! Seeing how popular it is, it makes one curious.
I have MGS4 on the shelf for a while but only played like 30 minutes of it.

I would love to get into Dwarf Fortress, if only to share my stories of cataclysmic failure with all the rest of the Dwarf Fortress stories. I even downloaded it to give it a shot. But...

That interface...sweet holy shit that interface. I don't even... how? What? Can I even...what?

And now the game is off my computer, until I work up the time and dedication required to learn how to perform basic actions.
