As someone who owns, and has played the game extensively when I saw the Game Grumps starting an LP of this game I was pretty excited. As a disclaimer I have looked back at the game and cringed how at how "edgy and dark" it was, and how I bought in to it like a sucker as a little kid. So I wanted to see how the Grumps would react to this.

I was sorely disappointed in how they played out the first episode.

Nothing puts me off from an LP video more, than watching the LPer in question purposefully play like a total dumb ass and then turn around and say the game is shit. Especially when the game is an easy target for being bad already. Shadow the Hedgehog is a perfect example of it.


First 5 minutes of the playthrough (not counting the intro and cutscene.) Arin, continuously falls of a cliff. A cliff that is almost impossible to die from unless you were looking for it. In this case he kept homing attacking on the obvious ally NPC and ended up dying. He does this like 5 fucking times before he "realizes" that you can't harm the Doom Eye. Then he complains about the game being slow. No dude. It's not slow. If you weren't so focused on homing attacking everything and dying like a dumbass you can easily clear this state in under 5 minutes.

Then they complain about confusing game mechanics. Game mechanics that were literally explained to you in text by ally NPC's. Don't even get me started on the second episode of this playthrough when they finally realized that your supposed to choose between good, evil, and neutral. That was a feature advertised on the goddamn box.

It seems that they are trying to recreate the magic of Sonic 06. However the reason why the Sonic 06 playthrough was highly popular was because it was clear Arin and Jon tried to play the game seriously, but they couldn't because it was broken as fuck.
Shadow the Hedgehog, while bad, with a few scrapes and bruises along the way, is no where near as unpolished as Sonic 06. They know this, so instead of being honest about playing the game and critiquing it on legitimate fronts, they are trying to make it out that the game is a broken mess by playing like fucking idiots. It's obvious to anyone who has played the game, and a lot of people who were players of the game have seen through your shoddy smokescreen.

Don't make this a recurring theme. Either you guys play bad games with genuine effort or don't play them at all. Because it only serves to make you look bad when you unfairly bash a game for being broken when the reality is is that your playing it like shit.

It's like watching a really obviously staged "reality" television show. It's cringeworthy as hell.

I don't take Game Grumps seriously. There is a difference between playing the game causally and talking, and going out of your way to play like shit and claim the game is broken as fuck. That's what this LP has come across as to me. It's grossly misrepresenting how bad the game.

My issue wasn't so much that they were playing it badly. My issue was that they were playing it bad, and then saying it's the game that's this bad over all.

Eventually, they play a game that one of their viewers played a lot 'back in the day'. They play it the same way they've played roughly 75% of the other games on their channel, paying little to no attention, mocking the content, and generally completely screwing up. (I say 75% because they do occasionally actually make progress in games.) The only difference? This is a game that the viewer knows very well, and can't abide seeing other people trip around because of their own incompetence or lack of attention.

Trust me, it's happened to everyone. You only have to look at the actual comments on their videos to see that.

Also, Arin has a storied history of hating Sonic the Hedgehog in the first place. Expecting him to give the benefit of the doubt to the black sheep of the franchise is going a little far, in my opinion.

Ya there was the naughty bear first episode where they spent 90% of it missing the prompt to burn the present stuck in the first area, and calling Rouge squadron on the GC a bad game cause they were to busy talking to actually hear the mission they should have been doing.

There is plenty other things for the game to be made fun of for. Most of it revolving around the plot and the characters. I suppose you are right on that front. I've been very on and off with Game Grumps lately. In fact I actually watch more Steam trains than the later. Mostly because I guess they play the games a bit more seriously to my liking while still keeping up the jokes and interesting conversations.

I guess I'm just gonna skip over this LP. There are a bunch of games they've played so I'll just search for a much better one.

This is just something that comes with watching Let's Plays sometimes. If you're watching one where the player doesn't know what the heck he's doing when you do, you're gonna have a slightly frustrating time ("The tool is right there, Pat! Right the fuck there!!!").

Well, the game is broken and bad, not to the extent of "06,but still pretty bad. Also, you don't know pain until you've watched their wind waker play through.Watching Arin constantly use the grappling hook or the leaf to kill everything was frustrating. Anyway, this is nothing new, the grumps have always played games badly on purpose and the best thing to do is to open the video then open up another tab.

I stopped watching their videos a long time ago. Their talk is so grating, I'd probably enjoy the videos more if they were completely silent. I wish youtube would stop posting their stuff at the front page when I log in.

GameGrumps have never taken games seriously. It?s first and foremost a comedy channel, and you can?t expect them to be 100% focused on the game (let alone the cutscenes) when they?re talking with each other.

You don?t watch ?Let?s Plays? for good gameplay. That?s what longplays are for.
