I'm sure a fair few of us have had such an experience. In our minds, we design our perfect game. We create the characters, scenarios and plot. We create a whole world of our and sometimes think "If I ever become a game developer, this is what I'll make." And then, maybe a few months, or a few years later, a new game is announced. You're interested, so you look up as much info as you can about it. Then you realise something. This is that game you had designed in your head, those gits stole your idea! (somehow)

So share with us here those moments where a game designer has read your mind and stolen the greatest game idea ever from you.

For me, it's the new Mega Man MMO (Rock Man Online, not Mega Man Universe). A few years back I had the idea of a MMO based around Mega Man, and earlier this year we hear about Rock Man Online. Although we don't have much info yet the theft of the concept alone makes me angry. Grr.

For me it was an RTS FPS hybrid that me and my friend developed for a year.

Then we submitted the idea to EA, and received a message saying that there was no market for such a product, and rejected it.

Then Raven Squad came out. Our idea certantly didn't SUCK as much as Raven Squad did, but it was quite close to our vision.

An FPS where you play with mates online with free-running aspects. Then Brink came out into public view. It was very difficult for me because it was my game art project at University, and I then had to change a years worth of work into something else. I hate Bethesda now.

Never even heard of it, but it wasn't the first to be a FPS/RTS. (though I assume you meant the game itself not the idea of an FPS/RTS game so... yeah.)

I don't really have any for games, the ideas I do have are still nice and safe, though I'm paranoid as hell as to if I should ever even mention them around. I will say that I felt the prestige took away one of my main twist ideas for a series I've been designing for a while now which sucked cause, well I thought it was great and now will only come off as a rip off of that.

World of Warcraft.

That is all.
What, no elaborations? What did they steal? The style of gameplay? The story? The art style?

Pretty much the whole damn game. The races, classes, areas. I thought about it during warcraft 3 when it first came out and i was addicted to random MMO's at the time.

"Steal" is a big word, since ideas arent worth anything if you dont make them happen for real.. because its there that you realise if your idea is doable/effective/profitable or not.

Daikatana, i wanted the world to suffer through video games as part of my overelaborate plot to hypnotize all single men over 15 in the northern hemisphere [and Australia] using the dead or alive franchise, but John Romero beat me to it... that clever basterd.

...Yeah i put a lot of work into that.

So besides Shaq Fu, every horrible game ever is your idea, including Plumbers Wear Ties?

You might want to to check out the window. I think you have an angry mob with pitchforks, torches and righteous nerd rage on your lawn.

None. I've had ideas, but so far none of them have been released as games.

This wasn't exactly stolen since survival mode in games was becoming popular after gears of war 2 came out, but I always wanted horde mode in halo, and then they announced firefight in halo 3 odst.

Funny that, most governments would disagree with you on that, and have trademark, copyright, and patent laws to help people protect their ideas.
