This is a tad off-topic but hey.

Have been watching ZP for a long while now, and occasionally hear Yahtzee talking about how immersion plays a large part in (mainly) RPGs. I'm sure I don't need to quote the phrase about toast and Prince of Persia! My friend has a similar problem, in that he has played so much Halo that when he gets pissed off at them he will subconsciously melee attack them. Gives me a laugh anyway, having to reminding him that he isn't Master Chief. Anyone else have stories about immersion to the point of obsession?

This morning I found myself running exactly the same way Faith did. My vision was blurred(selectively), my hands moved like hers and was on the same spot. Also when I jumped into the bus, my vision came back like in CoD 2. o_O

Same with me, total immersion fell upn when I saw the wastelands.

Recent immersion happened with Far Cry 2, I was dodging bullets on my couch...
Also made me wear my safari vest and hat for a week now.

You leave a sewer in oblivion ;) You leave a Vault in Fallout 3 ^^

Anyway, that's my pedantic-assholery done for the day. Back on-topic!

Heh, Fallout 3 actually I find ridiculously immersive, to the point that for a long while I was very creeped out when underground or in buildings. I have in fact, been scared by a Molerat.

I can get very immersed with Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow, or indeed most of the stealth games I own - just turn out the lights, put the volume up and put a notice on the door informing any potential visitors to kindly "Sod Off". The immersion really kicks in then...

Also, Fallout 3 was incredibly immersive.

Oblivion. I was deeply immersed until it got to the point where I would enter a town and the guards would say "You violated the law!" that snapped me back to reality.

I got immersed once where i didn't go to the bathroom but i seem to evolve to a state of consciousness to where i immerse myself into the game to where i can win but able to keep myself away from total immersion so that i can live a normal life. I feel okay now that i killed in games. I used to rant that the game was at fault not me but i now see that i must take in the good and the bad and move on. I seem to getting better than i used to that i forgo the need to blame others

Fallout 3 is the most immersive game I can remember ever picking up. It can get to dangerous levels at times, especially in underground areas. I've lost many-an hour on that game. Its also pretty addictive...

If a game isn't that immersive, something hasn't been done right, in my opinion.

Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, The Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness games, Portal, Guitar Hero 2 and L4D. And unfortunately World of Warcraft.

If by immersive you mean you can spend obscenely long periods of time playing them.

Burnout Revenge had some sort of effect on me that seemed to be a sort of psuedo immersion effect.

Whenever I play it, the sense of speed and destruction in a race really gets my adrenaline pumping. I actually feel a little bit like I'm there. It's insane.

Oh, Doom 3. Scariest game to play while in the dark and alone I've ever played.
