Well, I know what you're thinking (oooh it's too early for a GOTY award) well yes it is, but that's not what I'm talking about.

I was doing a little research last night and well...seems this GOTY thing isn't all that new (sarcasm), one magazine Electronic Gaming Monthly, has all of their game of the years from 1989 to now (1989 is Ghouls 'n Ghosts by the way)

What I wanna know is (and this may take some research) but, what are your personal Game of the Year awards for as long as you can remember? Take a trip down memory lane, and hey you might just surprise yourself, I know I did.

My list of personal GOTY awards are as follows:

'92: Sonic the Hedgehog 2
'93: Super Mario All-Stars
'94: Final Fantasy VI
'95: Earthbound
'96: Super Mario 64

I can't remember all the years the games I would award things to came out, but I know for this year my pick would currently be Ghost Trick.

96 - Crash Bandicoot
97 - Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee (which I keep being told is spelt wrong, which I keep telling them is not my fault).
98 - Spyro the Dragon
99 - Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace (with notable mention to C&C Tiberian Sun in close second)
00 - Rayman 2
01 - Final Fantasy IX
02 - Timesplitters 2
03 - Not a great year as far as I can see, but I'm going to give this to Call of Duty
04 - Fable
05 - Fable
06 - Gears of War
07 - Gears of War
08 - Mass Effect
09 - Lot of good ones, but I'm going to give it to Prototype
10 - Again a lot of good ones, but this one goes to Darksiders
11 - Mass Effect 3, Gears of War 3 and Duke Nukem Forever are all in it to win it!

Also, what's with the double Fable and Gears?

Props for Abe, also I remember playing Episode 1 on Psone, was actually pretty fun if I remember rightly

The first corresponds to the original console release. The second is for the extended PC release.

2004 should definitely go to World of Warcraft. That game is the destroyer of worlds.

Maybe DNF, Serious Sam 3, or Rage for this year. I'm kinda predicting that Skyrim is going to suck. I never had any interest in it, but so many people hold it so high (kinda like Halo fanboys with Reach), that it will never live up to it. But at the same time, if it does bomb, I don't want to sit and listen to them cry for a few weeks after the release either...

Actually, wait, no. The GOTY contest is going to be between Rage (maybe), some sport game, Call of Duty, Skyrim, and something else probably good (maybe Portal 2) but underrated because 90% of the games (which I guess is the same 4 for every award) are all games released towards the end of the year. The awards are a joke and only focus on the newer games, and they are always sequels, too.

OT: Uhh... I dunno... I'm too lazy too look up the years for all the games I liked. Last year sucked even. Amnesia and STALKER Call of Pripyat were two of the only games actually worth playing.

1987: The Legend of Zelda

1988: The Legend of Zelda II: The Adventure of Link

1989: Mega Man 2

1990: Mega Man 3 (man this is a redundant list so far...)

1992: Kirby's Dream Land

1993: Shadowrun (sorry, Link's Awakening)

1994: Super Metroid

1995: Earthbound

1996: Super Mario 64

1997: Mario Kart 64

1998: Turok 2...KIDDING. No it's The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

1999: Donkey Kong 64 (which is still my all-time favorite platformer)

2000: The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask

2001: (I stopped gaming for a while, so the next 4 or five years are ones that I've gone back and played. I still missed a ton of great games). Star Wars: Rogue Squadron 2

2002: Ratchet and Clank

2003: Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic

2004: Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven. I actually did play this one when it was new. My buddy and I had an all-nighter with it on his PS2. It was the first sandbox game either of us ever played. It blew my mind at the time.

2005: Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II

2006: The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

2007: Mass Effect

2008: Grand Theft Auto IV

2009: Assassin's Creed II
