Haven't seen the show, but I will agree with Tyrion Lanister. He is simply awesome in the books.

Tyrion Lannister has the best character roll in the show, I am strangely attracted to Petyr Baelish though.
Its a tie between Tyrion Lannister and Eddard Stark. Its also hard not to like Bronn or the Hound, though they have limited roles here. I hope they get more coverage in future seasons.

For me it's Daenerys Targaryen, I absolutely love the character development of her. Only just now finished the book and series, waiting for book two to arrive in the mail, but so far I think it's great. My second is Tyrion Lannister too though, love him in both the books and the series.

Quite a fan of Sandor Clegane, too, though he hasn't done all that much in the show yet.

Eddard, Tyrion, Arya. In that order. Eddard for being truly noble, Arya for being a (believable) tomboy and Tyrion... well, it's Tyrion, no point explaining it.
Haven't watched the series yet, but I have to say Tyrion is my favorite. The only Lannister with a decent bone in his body. Though, I will say that I really started to like Jamie when:

Probably Bran or Eddard i was reading the third one where meera tells bran the story of the cannogman in the tourny and only just realised that it was Aerys tourny where everything goes wrong when i realised id forgot about benjen as the third brother.
Eddard Stark is awesome hands down, and Sean Bean did a magnificent portrayal.
Also, Tyrion is a legend. I love his wit. I was tense after Catelyn Stark took him prisoner - I thought that might have been the end of him! (I haven't read the books).
Arya is very good too. I think the actress does a great job, and she's a very likeable character. I'm assuming that recent events will change her too, expanding and developing her character further.
Jon Snow and Robb are also up there. I'd love to see them leading an army together.

Khal Drogo has completed some spectacular murders, the gold crown and tearing a mans throat out.... so far I wonder what he's going to do next.
The hound is pretty bad ass aswell, he doesnt say much but when the shit hit the fan in the throne room and he started walking towards the house stark soldiers I was genuinely concerned for their safety ^_^
