I never thought I see this day. Let alone that the TV show finishes before the books do.

Mabye after watching the TV series I can finally read the books I have in PDF format.

But regardless....Winter has come at last...

This TV show bored me to tears. I watched the first season, got bored, then came back for the very last season when things were happening and I can honestly say I don't think I missed anything in between.
In a story about zombies vs humans and dragons, get to that as quick as possible! What was it Yahtzee said about writing, 'Is this the most interesting thing that happened to your character, and if not why aren't we there?'
I would hope an apocalyptic zombie war is the most interesting thing that's going to happen...

I guess it just wasn't your cup of tea then. I fell in love with the first season within the first 30 minutes, and laughed my ass off at how stupid and awful the latest season was. I'm expecting nothing but hilarious stupidity and contrivances from this season either. Game of Thrones as it initially was was never about zombies and dragons, they were just a background element for the world. The story focused more on characters and the relationships between them. But after the writers passed Martin's writing, they fell back on hackneyed tropes and infantile "isn't that KEEEEWL" storytelling.

I made it through 2015 before I dropped off this show; never went back. I got tired of watching people sit around naked, drink wine, tell overt lies through aggressively sarcastic smiles and talk about all the amazing shit that?s gonna happen at some point in a much more interesting future; that?s what my local pub is for (less the nakedness.)

If the show has that kind of protracted snail?s pacing, I can?t imagine the slog that must be the books. Yes, I?m aware that?s an unpopular opinion, but I listened to the ?book is better? advocates with LoTR, and dear GOD that was a lot of unnecessary words; was Tolkien?s editor obsessive compulsive?

Haven't seen you in the forums for awhile Bartholen.

Eager to see your nerdrage for this season, and Bastardofmelborne.

Shame RiseoftheWhiteWolf is banned here, I saw him as the book fanboy number 1.

Personally I always found the White Walkers to be the absolute least interesting part about the story. They are just a bunch of zombies with an ice gimmick. They can't employ titans like Tywin, psychotic brat kings like Joffrey or sassy old ladies like Olena. All they can do is be boring zombies.

While I'm curious I can't say I'm exactly hyped for this season. The writing team really lost a lot of my faith in the last season.

The writers completely lost the ability to stage meaningful deaths. In the older seasons deaths served a purpose and were often a result of a characters failing. In the last seasons characters died pretty randomly and in some cases very heavy retcons were needed to get the story moving to where the writers wanted it to.

The best knight in Westeros could suddenly be killed by thugs in an alley. One of the absolute strongest houses in westeros suddenly got retconned into being pushovers that could be defeated in a few minutes and Cersei, a character who's mostly defined by her incompetence at wielding power suddenly became so competent she could easily take out two great houses which is a feat that took her supposedly extremely competent father three whole seasons.

Oh and there's Dorne

And I get that's it hard when the writers suddenly run out of books and have no clue where Martin wanted to go, I get that very late complexities like Doran Martel and ''Young Griff'' would never fully get their due but there were still better ways to move forward.

I think Cersei can be blamed for a lot of problems. I suspect that either the writers were really devoted to her character or thought the audience couldn't do without her and so they retconned the doomed situation she created for herself in season 7 into a powerful position that allowed her two survive two additional seasons.

I'd be fine with a show just about Arya assassinating people.

I'd be fine with The Night King ruling the world, because this is not a world worth saving.

I haven't seen much of the series but the books kinda lost me once they got to the zombies. I liked the characters and the politics and all the stuff about rulership just fine and then they introduced the White Walkers and I stopped caring. I don't think any story has ever gotten better from adding Zombies to it.

TBH, I've always found the White Walkers/Night's Watch storyline the most engaging element of the series.

By A Feast for Crows, I was utterly sick of the political stuff.
