TBH, I've always found the White Walkers/Night's Watch storyline the most engaging element of the series.... I was utterly sick of the political stuff.

Never read the books, but this is why I fell off the show as early as I did; I walked in expecting a high fantasy spectacle, and I got a protracted high fantasy soap opera surrounding events happening elsewhere at some undetermined point in the much more interesting future. It was like watching your favorite sport on TV, but the only camera angle is from the broadcasting booth where the commentators simultaneous hate and are sexually attracted to each other and they?re constantly going off topic with personal anecdotes.

I haven't seen much of the series but the books kinda lost me once they got to the zombies. I liked the characters and the politics and all the stuff about rulership just fine and then they introduced the White Walkers and I stopped caring. I don't think any story has ever gotten better from adding Zombies to it.

So you didn't get past the first chapter of the first book? I could be wrong, its been a while since I read the book but I'm fairly certain it opens with some members of the Nights Watch encountering some White Walkers while north of the wall.

I never got into that either. Hell, most people I knew watched little of it or none at all. Only a few stuck for the whole show.
