Very simple question and I don't really know where to ask. I'm not a part of any fandom forums, I enjoy the show and read the books and my interest generally ends there.

Anyway I've taken to re-watching the first three seasons and I've come upon a timeline question; How long has it been (Via the very first episode) since the Targaryens were overthrown? It couldn't have been terribly long if Jaime was the knight who killed him. I'm just wondering.
The way the dialog makes it sound like it was long ago, but Jaime would have been too young so I estimate only a couple years.

Just wondering.

Jamie was around 16 when Robert took the throne & Cersei was a teenager, so I would have estimated somewhere between 10-20 years? That sort of timescale would fit other characters as well - there's no way Robert Baratheon could let himself go that much in only a couple of years.

Well...

As said, Jamie was seventeen when he killed Aerys Targaryen II, and in the book he's... sure, thirty-three, I'll take that.

Eddard Stark married Catelyn Tully and impregnated her with Robb Stark the day before he rode off to Robert Baratheon's revolution, and Robb Stark was... fourteen at the time of the first book? Jon Snow was conceived at a relatively close time to Robb too, and I'm fairly certain he was fourteen at the start of the first book.

Umm isn't it around 13 years or so.

At least in the books, Daenerys Targaryen is said to be 13 years of age at the start of the books and she is said to have been born at the Dragonstone after her mother had fled the sacking of Kings Landing, Robert had already taken the throne by this stage and the last of the Targeryen fleet was destroyed at this time, basically the war was all but over.

Saying that the ages in the books are very different to those of the TV show, like I said Daenerys is meant to be 13 / 14 in the books as is Jon Snow it's quite obvious that they aren't, then again saying that their is a scene in the 2nd or 3rd series where Sansa is asked her age and she replies that she is 14 which would match the age she is meant to be in the books.

In the books, 15 years. Robert won his rebellion and seized power in 283, the books open in 298. (see http://awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/Timeline_of_major_events)

Think the show is slightly off that given age differences. Know it starts at the same date, 298, but believe Robert's Rebellion was moved back to 280 or so to account for the kids being older.
