I've noticed there is far too little discussion of Game of Thrones going on here, at least as far as I can find.

I'd say "sufficient" discussion would involved everyone on Earth having all seen the awesomeness of the show and commenting on it continually.

It is the greatest creation of humanity.

For those who have watched it, savor this:

For those who haven't, watch this then WATCH IT!:

Agreed! Amazing series. Sets a new bar for television in general. Anytime you find something amazing that has no peer, you know its brilliant.

Kudos HBO.

I'm totally rooting for the dragon lady, she kicks so much ass. Also, she's pretty much the only sympathetic character in the show, everyone else is either a likeable asshole or a fucking asshole. Haven't read the books, but I hope the series ends with her conquering the throne and killing off everyone else. Also, I hope there's a scene when she lights herself on fire before storming in to battle, that would kick ass.

The show is awesome. Finally, a fantasy tv-show that doesn't suck! Who would have guessed?

Not going to read this thread again because I'm only on Episode 7 and afraid of spoilers, but it's fucking great. One of the few TV series that I actually have the patience to watch.

I'm not sure I see the discussion value in this thread. Granted, the show is absolutely fantastic, there's no denying that, but I don't think that fact alone provides us with much to talk about. Accordingly, let's talk about specific things that make the show great. To get the obvious out of the way: Peter Dinklage. He is wonderful as Tyrion, perfectly capturing the world-weariness and snarkiness of the character. He's possibly the best thing about the show.

To all of you who've watched the series: go and read the books. Now.

5 days until A Dance with Dragons is published... CANNOT WAIT.

I've heard the show follows the books pretty closely. By that I mean Fuck the books, why would I want to spoil myself? The show would lose all suspense. Like that scene with Sean Bean, everyone knows which one, that came as a complete suprise for me. And reading the first book now, when I already seen it played out seems pointless... rather read something that I don't know the ending to.

It does. And the series was good, yes? So surely, from that you can reach the conclusion that the books are also good?

I'm a huge fan of the books, and I still loved the TV series. Just because you know what's coming doesn't mean all the suspense is gone.
The scene where Ned dies. As soon as I saw him being led out of the prison, I started tearing up. I knew what was coming, but it didn't make the moment any less powerful. If anything, it made it even more powerful.
To paraphrase Oscar Wilde, if you can't enjoy a story more than once, there's no point being told it at all.

For the record, I can actually understand where you're coming from. It's perfectly fair that you'd want to keep what happens next a surprise, but you saying "Fuck the books" pissed me off. If you think the books are worthless, then why do you think the TV series is worth watching? Especially since, by your own statement, it sticks to the book very closely? You haven't read them, you've said you won't read them; what right do you have to administer any judgement about their quality at all? Apart from those three words, your post was pretty reasonable; unfortunately, saying "fuck the books" just makes you sound very narrow-minded. I'm sure you didn't intend it to come across that way, but it does.

It's almost impossible to decide who is the best character or actor in this. There are just so many awesome people involved.

Tyrion is probably the most standout, with an awesome character and the perfect actor for the part. Every line he delivers is brilliant.

Joffrey is so eminently hateable, more so than in anything I've watched before, which takes sheer genius.

Every other character - major and minor - are outstanding in their acting and as awesome, memorable characters. Syrio Forel, Drogo! And the actors who play the Stark kids are brilliant too, I don't know if that's ever happened before on a TV series.

I'd love to see how they make this show compared to others. How it is a show like that can come together so perfectly and yet 99% of others just... don't. It can't just be casting, it just seems in some shows, anyone they put on the screen is awesome no matter what. And in others they suck, no matter what (like the Harry Potter and Star Wars movies where even the best, most seasoned actors are crap).

I mean contrast Arya and Bran to the Harry Potter/Narnia kids or... dare I say it... Anakin in ep 1. HOW!?

And Drogo... it would be SOOOO easy to make that character a corny and lame Hercules caricature, yet somehow he is just straight out awesome!

I contest that humans had no part in making this show.

A friend showed me the first episode about a month ago in his house, I stayed watched 2 more and then watched another 2 when I got home.... A great series alright.

Sex, violence and best of all a boatload of political intrigue to provide us with more violence >:)

I heard somewhere that the initial budget was 63 million (not sure what currency, anybody have any details?) or something like that? I reckon most of that was spent on set builing and costumes. Perhaps we can look forward to larger battles in the second series not that I really mind, any of the fight scenses they do have have been full of awesome :)

Loved the Series, both the show and books (looks at Avatar). I can't wait for the next season. The War of the Five King is going to be awesome. If any network can pull off something as epic as this series its HBO. Hats off to them.

Oh, and I have good news everyone

Coming out next week. Its over 1,000 pages, but I'm sure it will be worth it. Winter is coming.

But I just watched the damn story. I know how it goes. There are plenty of great books out there. If the show differed from the book (like the Dexter books for example), I'd might consider it, but just reading the same story again, eeeh... sorry, I just don't see the appeal.

I heard a lot about this series by word of mouth and understood the moment I began to watch. It's so great to have a series with a Lord of the Rings feel but a completely unique story and development...unless you count Boromir being a main character, lol.

The Game of Thrones universe is incredible and I can't wait to find out whats beyond the Wall and what will happen with the people from across the sea. I cannot wait to dive into the reading.

The series has been around for a while, too bad it needed HBO making a series for it to become popular.

The show has done a good adaptation. But the books are still miles better. And those scenes are just as powerful, if not more, then when shown on TV.

It's a lot more fun to watch the show if you have read the books, and it's just as suspenseful either way. But hey, the whole juvenile attitude of "fuck books" works for some people, I guess.

Gota say I agree, reading the books doesnt in any way spoil the story for me.

The same kind of thing happened to me when I was 13. I saw the first lord of the rings film in the cinema, without reading the book. That night I went home and started reading the books, Tolkiens writing is incredible but watching those words come alive on a cinema screen was amazing. I went to the cinema knowing what was going to happen for the next two, but I didnt care. I find when I read my mind paints a picture of whats being described in a book. The battle of Helms Deep wasnt half as awesome as I had thought it was going to be, let me put it that way =D

I think my brother actually has the books, I may have to rob them for a while :p

I am the only person on planet Earth who loathes Daenerys Targaryen. :p

I'm really looking forward to season two. Looking forward to seeing who they cast as Melisandre, Davos, and Brienne.

Why would you want to read the books?Maybe because the books go into way more detail than the series could ever hope to.Characters are more fully fleshed out, events are described in greater detail, there's more history of the world, stuff that was left out/glossed over in the series is intact in the book.Seriously not wanting to read the book because you know the ending seems like a very poor excuse. The series is fantastic so far but it can never hope to compete with the depth of the novels without being 2-3 times longer
