Have you ever been playing a game and stumbled upon something that just ruins the whole experience? Whether it be something that breaks the fourth wall, a glitch, crappy controls, or just a really stupid plot twist.

Here are mine.
I was playing Fallout: New Vegas, and was talking to a scientist at Helios-1 when I discovered that I had the option to say "I've overloaded the plant, it can't be used as a weapon anymore". This was strange, because I've already told him that. So I then realize that I can spam this sentence and get a crap-load of free xp, stimpacks and doctors bags. It just sort of broke the atmosphere for me, and now i'll always be tempted to go back there and get some free gear.

Alex Mercer was just too much of a dick for me to take Prototype seriously, which is a shame because if you completely scrap the entire story, it's an alright game.

Another was the quicksaving in Far Cry 2 for pc. It doesn't make one save which it overwrites every time you quicksave, it actually makes a NEW save every time. So I end up with a few hundred saves which I have to delete. There's no point to it. Didn't break the game for me but it was really annoying.

So what's yours?

MW2. The moment I realised you can't turn the aim assist off. I can only wonder why the entire IW team hasn't been publicly castrated for that one.

Most recently, the homefront length... After 4.5 hours of playtime the credits rolled and I literally said to myself "Is that it?"

There is this glitch in Spore where it would crash the game in space stage after a while, happens after leaving a planet and you can save only after leaving. Anyway have been playing for several hours when the game crashed, since it didn't save I lost about 10 hours of progress which is a major blow to the morale. After letting off some steam and coming back to it after a couple of days it crashes on me again and I lose another 8 or so hours of progress (and thats only because I remembered to save after a while). Twice is really demoralizing, but I came back around, needless to say it crashed third as well though no as far into the game as previously. Which is really sad because I was just getting to the good stuff.

Now whenever a game crashes on me for no good reason without saving my progress I say it pulled a Spore on me.

Perhaps the company had bigger concerns than the entertainment of an under-ager. But since they were disbanded and denied their millions of dollars, I'd say it's an even split.

I remember when a friend was watching me play Lost Planet and he said "Dude, heat seeking missiles. If you had heat seeking missiles you could just shoot them and they'd home in on the glowy bits and destroy everything. Why don't they have heat seeking missiles? They can travel the stars and not have fucking heat seeking missiles?" I laughed, then thought about it, and went "You're right. Fuck this game."

The parts in Phantom Hourglass that made you replay that stupid temple every time ruined it for me. I did it twice and said fuck it.

Dragon Age: Origins' awful party NPCs killed that game for me.

The fucking MAKO in MassEffect 1 (the stupid tank you have to drive around) didn't quite ruin it for me, but I'm incapable of replaying it knowing that I'll have to do that again.

Halo 2, at the very beginning, where everything is blowing up and the frame rate is dying... that killed it for me.

Killzone 2, would not read my optical audio cable and I had to fuck with my audio settings to make it even work... not a good start and never got better for me.

Resistance 2 (or 1 maybe, I dunno), I'd completed all my objectives but the mission wouldn't end. I ran allllll the way back through the level and found one of my squad guys was stuck in a railing; apparently he had to make it to the end. Couldn't kill him, couldn't do anything but restart... so I fucking turned it off forever. Fuck you, Resistance.

The first time I played Dead Rising 1 and I realized the main character controlled like a tank (a la Resident Evil 1 through CV) I said fuck this and shut it off.

Majesty 1 and 2 for PC, all the intro levels are fun and playable but all the advanced levels immediately bombard your town with monsters. Fuck no. Uninstalled.

I guess any game with a sudden, unfair difficulty curve will turn me off as well.

Splinter Cell: Conviction- the stupid plot ripoff of 24 I could take, what I couldn't take was the enemies as they are constantly calling out to you in such a stereotypical henchman manner.

Just thought of another one.

Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising.

Your NPC squad-mates always walking in front of you while you're shooting. REALLY annoying.

The games that advertise and demo as one genera of game and end up being other ones. It's so stupid. "new action-adventure? Sweet!... waitasecond... its a sim-style game...." those are what kill the mood. Even if I like both genera's, it kills the mood for me. Consistency is nice.

Halo: Reach, framerate issues in a console exclusive, how the hell do you allow that? HOW the HELL do you allow that?

Lost Odyssey, when I was instantly KO'd by some random giant crab thing. I was already frustrated with the game, I just drew the line when that happened.

Now THAT is a funny story! :D

OT: Well I'm gonna have to say FFVIII when basically the entire cast discovers
they all went to the same orphanage and have since conveniently forgot AND somehow all ended up going to the same school, traveling together, and all of them discovering this as a group as well...

Retarded hit detection in black ops.
Retarded knife lunge in black ops.
Retarded graphics in black ops.
Retarded sniping in black ops.
Retarded black ops in general.

I always detest the beginning of a sequel.
To be precise: the part where they strip you from all your powers/gear you got from playing the previous game (like going to hell in God of War or the attack on the villa in AC: Brotherhood)

Was playing Pneumbra: Overture and basically it's not stealthy enough nor combatty enough either way for my liking.

They say stay in the shadows etc, but it doesn't seem to work. Yo have to physically have something between you and the dog. And you can't move.
And you can't be looking at it.
