S-O-N-I-C----T-H-E----H-E-D-G-E-H-O-G. I'm mad at Sega for screwing up their biggest chance to return Sonic to a good place; they called a new game Sonic The Hedgehog. Then, of course, in that game they brought back every character from before and then created a huge new cast on top of that. Three of them are also hedgehogs. That's not including Shadow, who suddenly turned to guns and monster trucks... if I thought he was cool before, that killed it.

Kill Rouge the Bat(the whore). Kill Mephistopheles or whatever his name is. Kill Silver. Kill Amy(why did she matter in the first place?). Kill Big the cat. Kill that stupid genie guy. Kill Blaze the cat(oh wait, they beat me to it). Kill Froggy and all those stupid robots(E-102 I liked, but he died. And even that was cool). Kill those hawks or whatever from the racing one. Kill everyone from the comics. Kill Cream. Kill everyone from the anime. Especially Chris.

Kill Knuckles(I liked him in Sonic 3, before he started rapping). Kill Tails(who used to be my favourite, before Sonic Adventure, and even then I held off until SA2, which was enough for me to write him off forever). Kill Shadow(you did! Why go back?!) And while you're at it, kill the blue blur himself.

Any series no longer making a profit. All else is fair game.
This. I may not approve of the "George Lucas" approach to milking a concept for all it's worth, but if I could make a profit doing it than I'd be guilty of it too.

I see nothing wrong with a series as long as its good after every sequel such as Halo which has been good every game so I really don't have any problem with sequels as long as the first game didn't suck.

For anyone saying that there is ANY series out there that needs to end; don't play it, don't read about it, don't give a shit about it. But jesus, is it really needed to want to end something just because YOU don't like it? That's retarded.
No game developer is looking here and going, "hm, well, some anonymous guy on the Escapist doesn't like my game series. Better end it then!" It's just a silly little rant board. I had mine, and I feel a lot better. One shouldn't enter these kind of threads looking for serious discussion, because you'll find none.

The Leisure Suit Larry Fanchise. After the abomination that was Box Office Bust, Larry needs to retire.

UNLESS they return to the point-and-click adventure format. On the Wii.

It's been said already. Final Fantasy. I've played them, enjoyed them, but I've long since reached the point I don't care. And really, 14 sequels is a little much, okay.

And for God's Sakes, just quit with the VII spinoffs. I loved VII in it's day, and maybe one spinoff was okay, but damn, it's just getting ridiculous. It's one of the reason I believe that any given thing should be allowed one spin off at the very most.

Metal Gear Solid has finished it's storyline. Last Call. You don't have to go home but you can't stay here. It's over.

Guitar Hero and Resident Evil. Those two series I just head-desk everytime I hear about another one.
Well if you don't include the Wii rails shooter spin off games, Resident Evil 4 came out in 2005 and Resident Evil 5 came out in 2009.
I don't know how you CAN'T count them. They're resident Evil games after all. That's like not counting GH Metallica and Aerosmith. They count.

Anyways for me the series stopped being anything decent in RE4. I'm sorry was that suppposed to be scary? Yeah no.

Obviously not everyone shares this opinion however this is mine.

A lot of people are saying Halo and if it weren't for the fact that, at least during this year, Microsoft has been trying their hardest to whore the franchise out with an anime, more sequels etc, I would argue that it's just been 3 games but that's not the case anymore.

So, yeah Guitar hero...I guess.

The entire Music Game Genre needs to be removed by any means necessary. Just because there haven't been as many Rock Bands doesn't mean it doesn't suck as much. And don't get me started on that DJ Hero thing, and seriously, LEGO?

The vast number of Guitar Heroes doesn't annoy me. It's all the "games" they brought out, that were basically just extra songs (For example Guitar Hero Metallica)

I think Medal of Honour could give it a rest now.
At least they put some work into that oversized track pack. GH: Metallica still stands as my all time fave GH game, especially after the release of smash hits.\

O.T.

Pokemon needs to just die or get some full 3-D and gameplay innovation going. Gold, Silver, and Crystal were the crescendo of the series, and Diamond/Pearl made it jump off head first to a pile of manure.

Wow, can't believe next to no one (if any) mentioned the Tony Hawk franchise. Have any of them been playable after 2?

I would say Halo, but ODST and Reach sound somewhat refreshing.

I'm saying Metal Gear Solid. 4 should never have been made. Yes, I went there.

MGS 1,2 and 3 were all brilliant, although The Twin Snakes was a bit strange. I just found MGS 4 to be an abject failure in my view.
Thank goodness I'm not the only one who feels this way.
