Also, people do buy games in a series because they know the game won't be too different to the previous titles. The whole idea of buying a new game set in a new world must scare them or something.
FFs are /always/ a group of anime characters fighting some big scary force (the government/Sin/corporations.) and getting to know/love each other on the way. People keep on buying these games because they are promised a resonably good time with minimal thinking on their part.
