I have to agree that it would be better if they stopped introducing new Pokemon or try to introduce fewer, but well thought out Pokemon. The legendaries still look good, but when they run out of ideas and make one look like an ice cream cone I start suspecting they went out for ice cream when they were out of ideas.
Because the ice cream cone is so much worse than black-face or just a pile of mud...

Sorry but I never got the argument. There is no real difference in the way they take inspirations for Pokes since the first gen.
true this.

I just wish they did an action game for pokemon, a full 3D one (none of that 2D shit) on a console/pc that mimicked something like dynasty warriors or kingdom hearts for the gameplay, each pokemon has it's own subset of moves and it actually accounts for dodging and shit.

rough idea, but i think it'd be hella fun for a gameplay change up.

OT: don't really see the need for any series to die..i mean sure, some games might not be greater than others in the series, but if people like them, then woohoo?

Sure, there are bad Pokemon in earlier generations too, but then they actually had to make enough to fill a game. Now they have the luxury of using older generations and focusing on making the new generation good rather than plentiful. Also the new generation got more than just the ice cream cone, it also got Pidove which is pretty much a Pidgey, even the name is similar. It got Woobat which is a different design of Zubat, also with an almost identical name. There's Klink, Klang and Klingklang which follows the same concept as Magnemite when they evolve. There's Baltoy and Yamask.

I'm not saying that there weren't bad Pokemon before, I'm not that clouded by nostalgia. I think the Pokemon series is improving in terms of style and battle system. However the newest generation seems kinda lazy to me. Are you really disagreeing with me when I say they should focus on quality rather than quantity?

Resident Evil is the first thing that comes to mind. It's so far gone from what it originally was they may as well not call whatever 6 is a Resident Evil game.

Pokemon I wouldnt say has to die. More like just stop introducing more badly designed pokemon every couple of years and branch out to something different with the ones you have. I'm still waiting for the all encompassing full pokemon masterpiece where you can go to every region and capture every pokemon with having to rely on events. Yes, I know how unlikely it is.

Mario and Zelda. Stop Nintendo. Just stop.

As far as other people's picks go------

COD doesnt have to end, it just needs to come out less often and have better writters.

They can still do something with the Sonic games if they would stop fucking about and focus.

Final Fantasy would be great if they would lay off the direct sequals of games people hate.

None. I have no problems ignoring series that I dislike, it is not like someone is sitting behind me and shoveling them in my face.
and we have the /thread right here. I'm not big on a lot of series but they are easily ignored, for the most part

halo, bring on the hate. its just so generic and it prevents Microsoft from supporting new IPs. its the only game they have left so they are just milking it.

I believe they should stop making Sonic the Hedgehog games for the franchise's own good. Every Sonic game they release nowadays hurts me a little inside. Please, let the blue hedgehog rest.
Why? The last few have been very good actually, both critical and commercially successful. Colours was really good and Generations was pretty good too (both a touch short, generations a bit short on replay value). A far cry from the horrible state the franchise was in in the mid 2000's, almost everything between Heroes (quiet I like Heroes I'm aware of it's warts but it was enjoyable) and Colours is pretty poor though unless it's been on a handheld.

They need to add a bit more in the games though, versus racing on foot is always good to have, so long as they avoid the crap like the karting from SA2.

OT: Meh, I don't care, if I don't like it I don't play it and that's all there is to it, if other people enjoy it let them be. For example, I personally still find CoD perfectly enjoyable, it does what it sets out to do and I'm yet to hate a Call of Duty game, even World at War had it's positives.

I agree with the basic idea that no further game needs another basic bird line (which in terms of story is understandable that there is about always a new one) or another Ratata-esque normal type that no one is ever going to use outside of the story. But sadly, if they are going the same route as they did with Black and White (aka new region and only new Pokes until a certain point) it is understandable that they remade some things that are just basic (like another bloody bat that swarms me whenever I enter a cave). Though I find the typing of Woobat / Swoobat more appealing than Crobat.

It is enough room to argue about the designs in Pokemon, I never wanted to imply that all of them are good, since gen 1 designs were hit or miss with only a few that are widely accepted as good looking.

I also don't disagree with quality over quantity. But I disagree with the implication that this is not the route they are taking right now. Black and White had, in my humble opinion, the best set of Pokes with a wide array of typings to choose from (fire/bug? FUCK YEAH!) with a lot of designs that work especially well in the setting (Yamask in the ruins is just one type of creepy in consideration of its Pokedex entry).

Also, Baltoy and Yamask? They have about nothing in common, not even in terms of design...
Black and White are the best pokemon games since Gold and Silver, in my opinion, and probably have the most pokemon I really like out of any generation. BW really refreshed the franchise imo, Diamond and Pearl were kinda weak though.

As you said, if they repeat what they did with BW and have 150-ish new ones and no old ones available in a whole new place, I'm fine with that. My only issue with BW was the abscence of a post-game quest with some substance, but that's HG/SS's fault.

EDIT: Also, they were a bit easy, the hard mode in BW2 should be available from the get go ¬_¬

Colours was great, Generations was good. It's been a good franchise since Yuji Naka stopped fucking it up for everybody else. I swear that man lost his fucking mind at some point after Sonic & Knuckles.

I just hope that Sonic Team can continue the trend of not fucking the series up any more.

I'd say Mario and Zelda haven't gone anywhere in years, but I love Pokémon, so I guess that would be a little hypocritical.

Sonic (your mileage may vary) and Final Fantasy at least try to do something with the series.

While i don't care enough about COD to wish it to stop, i agree with the pokemon comment, i loved pokemon as a kid but it has just gone to ridiculous lengths to increase the number of the little buggers and while the over all story and game elements seem to be getting better the sloppy addition of new pokemon is just making it seem lazy.

Valve has not released a statement about Half Life for roughly 3 or 4 years by now. Everytime HL is in the news it is not Valves fault, they ride the "we announce when there is something to announce" train. And furthermore: Half Life had 4(!) games of which the last was released in 2007.

Wait, wut? Valve has done 4 Half Life games so far (not counting expansions and multiplayer), and they left the last game on a massive cliffhanger and haven't released a Half Life game since 2007. In the meantime they've revitalized Team Fortress, made Left 4 Dead, made Portal into a franchise, made an official sequel to Dota and done another Counter Strike. How are Valve "in your faces" about a series that hasn't had a game in 6 years?
I was being sarcastic guys. I know all about Valve's other franchises, and I know that the only official recognition that Valve have given towards Half Life 3 has been denying it's existence.

Well anyway sorry about the misunderstanding. :-(

Little tip, next time put /sarcasm at the end of it. Will lessen the impact of it, but prevent misunderstandings.

Half Life. Valve are so in our faces about it, you can never seem to get away the bloody series! I mean come on, try another franchise for God's sake?!
Heh heh. I saw the sarcasm.

For me, I think any franchise can stay around for 5+ entries but ONLY if the devs take their time with each game and release them with a fair gap in-between. Otherwise people are going to be a lot more susceptible to pointing out similarities to "last year's game" and develop franchise fatigue quickly.
So Zelda and GTA can stick around for eternity for all I care, just as long as they keep doing things the way they are now with releases.

Franchises like Silent Hill on the other hand really need to stop shooting themselves in the foot.

Well i'd say Final Fantasy just because it's been going on for forever and a day but I stopped keeping up with them so they might be new and fresh every time *shrug*

*Googles it* Holy shit that's actually a thing.

I was never a huge Pokémon fan, though I did watch the show and collect the cards as any self-respecting ten year old would, but damn this is getting silly.

Well you've got to milk the cash cow while you still find more money than shame.
