Since I've been ninja'd at every turn I'm going to head in a different route and say Tekken. As far as fighting game music goes I don't think any can match it. It really sets the atmosphere and sucks you in, not to mention epic in most places.

To me that would be Xenoblade Chronicle (one of my favourite soundtracks in a game). Sure it's a newer game series compared to some of the older ones but none the less the soundtrack is fantastic.

Halo.
All except Halo 4, Halo 4 was abysmal, just a god awful score.

As far as themes go Tales of (blank) has some great Jrock themes, and not bad battle scores either

Halo 4 had one good theme in it: Sierra 117. It felt like a Halo score.

The Persona series hands down for me. I've yet to play the first or Eternal Punishment, so I don't know about them (though I hear IS and EP are quite similar in that regard), but all the other installments had great soundtracks with each their own unique style compared to the previous that fits with the game. Especially 3 & 4.

Have to say I agree completely with this one. The Persona 3&4 OSTs are the only video game soundtracks I own, and I listen to them pretty frequently.

I'm going to throw in another vote for Shadow of the Colossus. The music suited the atmosphere perfectly, and I loved how they had a unique track for each stage in the battle.

Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers

Bastion

These games have music I like to listen to outside of the game while most other games have only one or two outstanding pieces.
