Quest 64 had loads of potential. I think out of every game I have ever played (it's a long list) it, by far, has the most wasted potential.

I think they need to remake it or something XD

Fable. It was composed of 100's of half fleshed-out ideas that would have been awesome gameplay elements if they were actually developed.

Oblivion. It was a good game I'll admit however it was to long, to big and overall not enough time was spent on it. Also about halfway through I started wondering if my character just dropped from the sky because nothing ever really fleshes out who you are. I enjoyed it but I could of seen myself enjoying it a lot more if there had been more attention to detail.

I'd have to say Fable for most potential game play idea's and Brink for most potential story.

Dark Messiah of Might and Magic.

It has arguably the best first-person slasher combat ever made, so much so that games such as Oblivion should be embarassed.

However, the plot is horrendously bad, the characters and voice acting are forgettable, and the level design is often downright retarded.
Add to that a slew of technical issues, such as framerates dropping below 15 on PCs that were decent when the game was launched, and ... well ...

Halo Reach.

It had Space Flight Combat \o/
...for one Level :(

I miss these kind of games.

Other than that, Alone in the Dark (the new one) had a nice approach to almost Puzzle-Based Survival Horror but it felt too limited in it's "Kill it with fire" thing, and was overall clunky and kinda stupid, storywise.

I agree with everything :)

The first Fable also.

Instantly thought of Spore while reading the title...

I'll say... Puzzle Quest, to mix things up.

i would have to say Mirror's edge or Singularity
both had great concepts, but were let down by dodgy execution
that being said i do love mirrors edge personally, i just know it could have been much better

Maybe not the game with the most unused potential but Dark Void really had something going for it. To bad the story didn't follow throw with the rest of the game and was so short.

Slasher combat! ...With your feet! *kicks stuff around* I'M A BADASS! *kickkickkick*

...sorry. Yeah I can see how it had lot's of unused potential >_>

OT: another couple I think we should add to this list:

Freedom Fighters - Great game anyway, but it had a lot of potential to be something much more, it just seemed to kind of half-heartedly do everything, but it did it all correctly at least.

The Void - A solid game, but...maybe a low budget got in the way. It has a lot of potential for the interesting ideas, I think if someone threw more money and time at it, it could have been a game much bigger than it was. ...That's my indie game for the thread <.<;

- Fable, could've been so much more if executed properly.
- Brink, if they bothered to fix the online problems before launch.
- Spore, if they would've went for a true creator game and not Mr. Potatohead.
- Fallout 3 and New Vegas, could've been so much more with a better engine and more polish.
- Oblivion, with better leveling and more connective and reactive combat it could've been even more immersive.

The Halo series, Could be something epic but they keep wallowing in the lake of bland.
Tsk, I beg to differ. One of the most epic and memorable singleplayer FPS experiences I ever had the pleasure to play. Next to others, of course.

Warhammer 40000: Fire Warrior.

A W40K FPS is possible and if done right could be epic!
Have you been following W40K: Space Marine? That looks like a fun actionromp done right.

Oh there are alot:
- Spore (you need to do more, not just play with the creature creator then pile some minigames on top)
- Fable (again so many ideas but noone to put them in)
- Mafia 2(finish the damn game)
- Overlord (such a great concept if only someone could be bothered to expand on it)
- Crackdown (GTA on crack - also known as awesomeness, but it never found the proper caring developer)

...damn it now I can't remember more, but there is alot of good ideas with bad implementation out there.

Maybe Portal 2 is worth mentioning, the world and story were great but where are the proper puzzles, maybe it's time to put in a difficulty setting and not just butcher the levels.

I'd agree with that point about Oblivion nobody knows you, you don't have any family or anything like that.

It's the only really off putting thing in the game for me hope they change that in Skyrim.
