I picked up the Steam Punk table top RPG and it awesome so much room to customize though it took me awhile to set up at first.
But you can't beat shooting dinosaurs with revolvers.

Well the most enjoyable was TF2. Rayman Origins also managed to put a smile on my face. Bastion was suberp too. THAT narrator.

Game that came out this year: Mass Effect 3
Game that came out before 2012: Sly Cooper HD collection (it has gotten me more interested in other HD collections like Jak and Daxter)

I'm going to assume you are asking from the start of 2012 and not the past year and that it is only games I haven't played before then. In which case I have to go with Saint's Row: The Third, coming in second would be Dungeon Defenders though I think it' a bit overpriced for what they give you, I don't think there is much replay value and playing with strangers leads to a much higher level coming in and killing everything before you get the chance. If it's over the last year then it's a toss up for second between Magicka, Dead Island and Payday with Killing Floor coming in first as always.

Lone survivor, it was a gripping, moving and horrifying experience that still makes me listen to the music and play it occasionally. A wonderfully produced indie game with great writing and a requirement of cerebral activity from the player her/himself.

Other?

Shogun ( as always) and Mass effect 3 as a whole. The ending debaucle aside, the game was pretty darn good.

Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion. Other than the Titans being a little overpowered, and there being a confusing lack of... well, anything new (seriously some mods add way more stuff for free)the game is well balanced, fun and still damn pretty.

The only game I've bought that was released THIS year is Diablo III, which I'm having good fun with. It got pretty boring around the end of Act II/beginning of Act III, but it soon picked up again and now I'm on Act IV and loving it.
Something to note is that Diablo III is the first game in a long long LONG time to make me excited for cinematics. Seriously, I couldn't give a damn about the loot this boss will drop, if it's the last boss of an Act that means a cinematic is coming up!

Assuming that I can only pick games that have come out this year, then Mass Effect 3, although Metal Gear Solid HD, Minecraft (Xbox 360), Trials and Ghost Recon Future Soldier have all run it close.

I feel lame for saying this, but I enjoyed Psychonauts a lot more than any current game this year. I had so much fun with that game.

Well seeing as the only game I've played this year that was actually released this year is Mass Effect 3, I guess I'll have to go with that.

Not to say it isn't a good game. I enjoyed playing it very much and it was SO much fun hanging out with Garrus.

Risen 1 and 2. The first one especially (I know it was not released this year, but I played it before the sequel release).
Mass Effect 3.

Biggest letdowns so far:
Diablo 3
Max Payne 3

Risen 2 for me. Some of the best fun I've had in awhile when it comes to video games.
How would you say it holds up to the original Risen? Is it better, worse or more or less just the same game with a different setting? I quite liked Risen and the pirate setting of 2 really intrigues me but from all the videos I've seen it looks kind of unpolished and buggy in places.

Mass Effect 3, although I did a replay of The Witcher 2 when the Enhanced Edition patch hit.

Saints Row the Third gets honorable mentions because I finally finished it in Coop this year.

For relatively recent releases, I had a lot more fun with Prototype 2 than I'd expected. I liked the first one (open-world, action-type single-player games are my favorites) well enough, but wasn't too sure about the new character and such. But, wow, did they ever do a great job with the basic mechanics and gameplay. The story - okay - not so much. But the game's the thing, at least for this sort of deal, and they nailed it. Combat, movement, using powers/abilities all just aces.
