I am thinking about buying a Pokemon edition [http://files.sharenator.com/43857_7_Game_Boy_Color_Pokemon_Gelb_RE_Ask_a_Dannyl-s575x800-89618.jpg] gameboy color so i can re-live the glory days of playing Pokemon blue, red, yellow, silver and gold.

Now, some dude told me to just use an Emulator if you want to play the pokemon games again. I am getting the gameboy for a steal on Amazon for only $50. It's something i really want so i can waste hours like i did as a kid on GOOD pokemon. Gameboy or Emu?

What say you Escapists?

I would say emulator ONLY because the carts might have dead batts in them preventing a save. That and it seems every one is saying game boy because it's the pokemon one. But if the cart batt is dead you can't save them

Cart batteries can be replaced, rather easily, too.

I say get the gamboy clour and pokemon game but I will just say he only thing that sets current pokemon and the 'glory' days of pokemon apart is that now it's less popular with improved gameplay in every aspect and that the only reason people think the old pokemon is better is because of

Well instead of going through all the crap why not just get a DS Phat and either Fire Red or Leaf Green with Heart Gold or Soul Silver. Keep both games together get to migrate what you catch in the GBA game and you get a Pokemon Pikachu like toy from the old days (which I sitll have mine). And you can play a remake of the GSC games, and trust me it is the same game, the only reason someone would want to go back to the old ones is because of nostalgia. And even then I wouldn't suggested that. At least with this option if you wanna play Black or White you can trade your pokemon over.

Ok i have been pondering over some of this questions, and i have now formed a new question.

I have only played Pokemon on GBC and none of the other gameboys. Which brings me to my next question: Which Gameboy has the best pokemon games? Are all pokemon games compatible with different gameboys?

Basically, what gameboy would be the best experience for Pokemon? I know that i really loved it on the GBC, but that was well over 10 years ago. Have things gotten better on the newer-ish gameboys?

I own all the pokemon rpgs on the handhelds and personally if you love Red and Blue as much as I do Fire Red (Red Version) or Leaf Green (Blue Version) would be a good GBA game to get. If you want a pokemon game with something new and a great end game(and a decent story) get emerald (which is also my favorite pokemon game (I think I did 13 playthroughs so far)). The end game computers are tough to got the gold symbols for. And the new DS ones (Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum) are fun and decent to play with newer pokemon (But for you I think you would enjoy Heart Gold or Soul Silver more).

Now the pokemon games on the Gameboy and Gameboy Color will not work with the Gameboy Advance games (the link cables on the GB(C) send data one at a time between systems, while GBA cables send data at the same time between systems). Which why I suggested getting a DS Phat or Lite, You can enjoy the remake of pokemon red, blue, gold, and silver on one system and have them combatable with each other.

The great thing about this is, is that it's the same as the old ones but they add a lot of gameplay features to them. So you can enjoy your nostalgia (minus music and graphics of course) and try out the other newer pokemon games.

The DS is a bit pricey for my budget. So the next best option would be GBA? I see that they have emerald on the GBA. Do they also have red, blue and what not on the GBA?

Pokemon is amazingly fun for the Nostalgia factor, but if you like monster collecting games, I would be remiss not to direct you to Dragon Warrior Monsters I & II (2 has more features). Beset creature games out there.

Yes Fire Red is the remake of Red, and Leaf Green is the remake of Blue. They don't have Gold or Silver thought, that remake is only on the DS.

I'd use an emulator, because I've tried playing Pokemon on the game boy and I really, really need to be able to run it at six times the speed. I can't be dealing with the waddling pace of travel, and the amount of waiting in combat is appalling. The downside is that berry mixing in Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald using a GBA emulator is an appalling hell.

GBC Rare edition VS Regular GBA with remakes plus better features... Hmm...

To be honest unless your going to sell the GBC or put it in a frame for your collection showing it off there isn't a real point to it. And a GBA can play Gameboy color games also so you can play the GSC games on the GBA with the remakes.
