The current match is four matches at once, with Xenoblade vs Donkey Kong Country 2, Mario Maker vs Fire Emblem 13, Banjo-Kazooie vs Baldur's Gate 2, and Castlevania: SOTN vs Ace Attorney 3.

There's probably a topic about this up already, but no reason not to remind everyone to vote.

Most of the time, it's just a popularity contest. i wouldn't imagine that the round 3 brackets winds up as something like Chrono Trigger/Pokemon G/S vs Final Fantasy 7, Super Mario World vs Mario 64. Banjo-Kazooie vs Zelda Link to the Past. WoW/GTAV va MGS/Earthbound/Borderlands 2. for the /'s it's just due to potentially super-popular franchises/games. so MGS might get up due to Name-factor but then again in that bracket, it's first match is against Splatoon. only other potentially strong competitors there is Mother 3, TF2, Starcraft and Bioshock.

Contest would probably be less homogenized if it did an entire contest around popular games/past winners, but have it in such a way that newer titles/underdogs doesn't fight one of them until round 3/semis.

this is the site that chose the L-block from Tetris as best Vidja game character
Eh, it was a nice change of pace from Link.

lol, Mario Maker, who chooses this?
Last month or so, users could submit suggestions for the contest. I would guess GameFAQs based the entries on those.

Meh, yeah. Also, it's all of the time. I'm not entirely sure why OP thought this really deserves a topic - it's just another year at GameFAQs. Only, they aren't doing character battle this time. It's pretty much the same, though *shrug* ultimately, pretty much inconsequential.

Doesn't GameFAQs do this every year? And, it's always the same heavy hitters that always make it to the finals (with maybe a couple newer games shoving out less popular titles)?

That's why I tend to ignore "Top games of a generation/all time/a certain long running franchise" whether made by public vote or a site's staff, since it's always against the same stuff. I also take most editors' opinion lists with a tankard of salt because (to quote Critical Miss) "They have shit taste." At least, "top games of the year/on a certain current system" may steer you in the direction of something new to try out.

It's Character Battle they do every year at kind sorta this time (tends to start a bit earlier). Well aside from a few years back when they didn't, but it's pretty regular anyway.

Also, just for the sake of clarity Character Battle is where people vote for characters from games - mostly the main characters, but not necessarily, for example, as did the L-block from Tetris which, in fact, won when it was introduced.

Also, as (pretty much) every year, this tournament is not really such a big deal. Especially after it ends. It's just a popularity contest, and that's it.

I'd forgotten how strong the Nintendo was with gamefaqs. XD Ah well, good for them, I guess. I haven't really been a part of their community for a couple years, so I'll abstain from voting. I'll probably follow the poll for curiosity's sake, though.

Is Trials and Tribulations considered the best Ace Attorney game?

Not that it matters, I doubt any of them would win against "Second best PS1 game of all time" SotN... unfortunately

Putting in Mario Maker is stupid.

Also, aside from DKC2 I haven't played any of them ... even though I specifically searched for the best games to play at some point. So ... meh

I cannot believe Mario Maker is in there. I fully regret spending money on it. It's incredibly shallow and all anyone does is try to make super hard troll levels.

This is GameFAQs, where it always ends up with some variation of Cloud vs. Link or FF7 vs. OoT, so i'm not really too fussed with it. Hell, back in the day when I was a lot younger I voted for Tales of Symphonia characters and somehow in one Character Battle there were three of them in it. It was a fun day watching Lloyd beat Wesker in votes. I don't think he made it past that one, though.

Why the heck is Xenoblade losing to Donkey Kong, of all things?
Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Quest is a great game, an easy entry in the SNES's Top 5.
