I hang out with a friend who has a little brother whos a little big for his britches if you know what i mean
He always uses the fact that i enjoy playing videogames as a fault in my character
Not that i give two shits what he thinks but has anyone else been called a "gamer" as an insult?

You're asking a video game website if they're insulted by being called a gamer?

I wonder what everyone will say.

Just use the fact that he enjoys life without a brain as an insult... because it is and he does. :D

And nah, I dont find it insulting. I dont care who knows I am a gamer, I talk about it loudly enough on the train, bus, street, elevator, shop, Burger King, etc.

Many an insult has come my way over the years. "Gamer" has never been one of them. Even if it was, what could I reply with but laughter?

Yeah, it pisses me off when people say that.

I knew a guy who had just turned 13 and said "I don't play games anymore. They're so stupid and juvenile."

I'd like to see him say that when I'm ripping off a guy's fucking head in Prototype or banging a hooker in my stolen Corvette...juvenile my ass.

By the way, nice avatar to the OP

Occasionally. I see it as a good thing. Same with nerd, geek, et cetera.

Off Topic: A person who called me a loser who only played video games and has no life, has two LIVE accounts with a total gamerscore of over 30,000.

Never been insulted for being a "gamer" in general...but I have been insulted for playing a lot of "bad" games.

My big brother used to call me a gamer a lot as an insult.

The killer was, at the time, I didn't even play games. He was the one with the PS2 and who used to call his daughter "my little ninja" because as a baby she would watch him play his fighting games and try to kick like the people on the screen while in her baby seat.

I was always more perplexed than insulted, because I hated video games back then--I didn't start gaming at all until a good five, six years later. So maybe he was psychic?

No. It sounds alot like using 'film-buff' or 'music-listener' as an insult. It isn't offensive; it's a statement of fact.

I've never been insulted by it, it's what I did at the time but I could always feel people's judgment albeit silent.
There's always something in their tone when they mention the fact that, I'm good at games or something like that, or if work is ever brought up, they'll kindly point out that I game and I don't have a job.

My moms boyfriend did rant at me to get NWN out of the house because he believed it was Satanic.
I was kinda confused, I'm the Wizard kicking demon arse over here.
I couldn't be less Satanic if I strapped on a halo and invited the pope around for tea.

Is he the kind of kid who still considers geek and nerd valid insults? But really, nope, never heard that as an insult.

Also, if playing video games is a character fault, what does he spend his time doing?

As sad as this is to admit, I miss the days when being a gamer meant you were a loser/dork/nerd/outcast/etc. Back then, being called a gamer as an insult was my badge of (geek) honor.

Then the kids came a fucked it all up, and most of my nerdrage goes towards most people whom their birth years have a "9" on the second digit.
