Yeah, it pisses me off when people say that.

I knew a guy who had just turned 13 and said "I don't play games anymore. They're so stupid and juvenile."

I'd like to see him say that when I'm ripping off a guy's fucking head in Prototype or banging a hooker in my stolen Corvette...juvenile my ass.

By the way, nice avatar to the OP
More like juvenile delinquent.

Bad-ump-tish!

Sorry.

On topic: Nope, never happened to me. I was actually popular for being on the cutting edge of technology, gaming or otherwise.

I've never been insulted by it, it's what I did at the time but I could always feel people's judgment albeit silent.
There's always something in their tone when they mention the fact that, I'm good at games or something like that, or if work is ever brought up, they'll kindly point out that I game and I don't have a job.

My moms boyfriend did rant at me to get NWN out of the house because he believed it was Satanic.
I was kinda confused, I'm the Wizard kicking demon arse over here.
I couldn't be less Satanic if I strapped on a halo and invited the pope around for tea.
It's probably the whole "magic" thing.

Tell him what Mudkip told Seaking.

If someone just yelled at me "GAMER!" I'd be quite confused. I think I would burst out laughing if I found out that they actually intended it to be an insult that I would take offense to.

Meh, never heard it as an insult. Just tell the kid that Santa's not real, that he was adopted, and that his parents really wanted a girl, but got stuck with him.

Either that or teach him the consequences of insulting those that are bigger, stronger, and and can run faster than he can :D

Being a nerd/geek is the cool thing now. Ever wondered who are the people responsible for your iPod/Zune/MP3 Player?

It is kind of lame when you can be defined by one thing.

Jock is pretty lousy, for instance. Gamer is a pretty ugly sterotype, when you think of it, (think Fata1ty).

Try to be a well-rounded human with broad interests. Interested in booze? Why don't you take up hookers and gambling to round everything out! Makes you a complete person, when otherwise you'd just be a boozehound.

Occasionally. I see it as a good thing. Same with nerd, geek, et cetera.

Off Topic: A person who called me a loser who only played video games and has no life, has two LIVE accounts with a total gamerscore of over 30,000.
I guess thats the definition of IRONEEEEEE

Is he the kind of kid who still considers geek and nerd valid insults? But really, nope, never heard that as an insult.

Also, if playing video games is a character fault, what does he spend his time doing?
Skating....The hilarious irony is killing me

Gaming's never been an insult thrown at me since most people I hang with play games as well. For some odd reason neither has otaku considering I'm the only one that likes a wide variety of anime....

I consider both terms badges of honor really. Sort of the whole take it back thing with insults these days. Like Randall did in Clerks II.

As sad as this is to admit, I miss the days when being a gamer meant you were a loser/dork/nerd/outcast/etc. Back then, being called a gamer as an insult was my badge of (geek) honor.

Then the kids came a fucked it all up, and most of my nerdrage goes towards most people whom their birth years have a "9" on the second digit.
You mean third digit? If so, I am insulted. At least I'm living up to your expectations, happily filling the gamer/nerd/geek slot.

But usually when I mention games, the closest thing to an insult people say is that I should stop wasting my time with them and do more with my life. I usually just shrug and say they're fun. The only time I retaliated on someone was when my friend was trying to convince me to buy prototype. He was saying how awesome it was, but I still couldn't bear to pay the 50 for it when Mass Effect was only 20. Then someone neither of us knew turned around and said, "I'd just save that money instead of wasting your lives. I actually have a life."

According to my school's standards, the only "cool" games to play are sports games and sometimes Gears Of War. Idiots.

I don't think people understand the complexity, patience and skill it takes to actually be a "gamer".

I have, in the town i am living in now. But in my old town, all my friends were gamers, but in my new town, i have yet to meet one real gamer, and most of the kids think of gaming as a sort of sickness(which is very annoying!) So i have been called a gamer as an insult a couple of times.

Have no fear. I live in a town of about 800, and I've managed to meet a couple of hardcore gamers. Too hardcore for my tastes, but gamers nonetheless.
