They are missing out on so much enjoyment.
So if someone tried to insult me for being a gamer... I'd laugh in their face.

I've called someone a gayemer once, but from where I come from all the people I know play some game, so it would be like insulting yourself.

But used in the context of : "You're a fucking loser who spends all his time playing games when you could be getting laid", yeah it is a pretty good insult.

No, it isn't. If "getting laid" is the highlight of your week, you need to rethink your life, or get one. That's pretty pathetic when you value something like sex above all else.


Back on topic, I could care less. I've had it used as an insult before, but really, they're missing out on a marvellous use of technology. More likely, I'll just be called a nerd, especially because I;m a Molecular Genetics major.

Yep, never really bothered me. I always found it funny when people would get mad at me and say I need to get out more. I just point them towards my other friend, who spent 12 hours in Naxxramus the other day, and say "See? At least I'm not that bad."

All of my younger relatives try to use it as an insult with the exception of the only other gamer in my family who is usually better than me in FPS games. Only thing that balances it is im good at RPGs and MMOs.

gamer is not an insult in any way being a fat nerdy highschool dropout with no friends gives people alot to insult you with and that is fairly common with many gamers whos parents pay for everything and dont try to make their kid get a job you would be surprised how often this happens so perhaps thats why it was used as an insult but gamer in its self is not an insult and likely never will be

Seriously, that's like your brother yelling "Trouser wearer!" or "Foot walker", it is such a banal aspect only an idiot would use it as an insult.

Games have been a part of recreation for as long as humans have been distinguishable from apes. Games ranging from the stupidly simple "ball in the cup" to more nuanced games card games or chess. The only difference is the games are interfaced through a Video or Computer (Console or PC games respectively) which is a trivial distinction as the video/computer interface just allows more depth and breadth to games. I mean most games allow you to play against real people but even if you're only playing against the CPU it is a trivial distinction as within the rules of the game they are effectively just as good as a human player only far more convenient.

If your brother is such a smart ass about games, take away anything game related from him (I assume you are bigger), or any "time wasting" recreation like music, sports equipment, whatever. Then tell him to practice what he preaches and be "productive" by getting a job or something.


See if he keeps up the sass talk then.

Either that or just throw things at him till he shuts up, that works as well.
