Gamer as an insult

even if he meant it as an insult, you really take offense to being called a gamer? Really? I have nearly 900 games and own more shirts with video game characters/logos on them than not. I even have a tattoo of Knuckles. I have been called a gamer many times, and was never insulted... I've been called many other things... but Gamer is one of the ones I can accept proudly.

I have occationally dropped "straight" as an insult, cause I get irked when I'm playing an online game and I hear someone drop "gay" as an insult. It's not a strong insult, sure. Gay isn't strong either. It's just annoying that peoples sexuality should be equated with "that's dumb."

I haven't been called a gamer as an insult before.

But I've been called a World of Warcraft player as an insult many times.
Which is strange because that game bores me and can't keep me entertained for more than 5 minuts.

According to my school's standards, the only "cool" games to play are sports games and sometimes Gears Of War. Idiots.

Huh, my school's standard is Guitar Hero, another game I find boring for some reason.

In year 10 my 'popularity status' went way up, which although I didn't care, it really annoyed my best friend, so he told everyone I knew that I played Runescape. Obviously he was attempting to make me unpopular by saying I played it, so I guess that counts. Needless to say that I'm not friends with someone as pathetic as that anymore.

Never, as most of my male friends are gamers. In fact, most of the male population in my area under the age of like 25 probably plays games...

Girls occasionally ask what the point of the games is and such (I never have a good answer) but they don't tend to insult games

yeah, well, there are lots of types of games. games that tell stories(ranging from serious to ...gta...) and games that are meant for "killing" time, and lots and lots of games..... SO yeah, though games can be juvenile, they can be mature too. Just like every other form of media./off topic

anywho, yes I have been called a gamer as an insult. by my own family, every day. They are bodybuilders. I am an otaku gamer. Am i insulted? yes./ by the fact that they think its an insult. I hate society.

GTA and Prototype where my main 2 points in that statement. Maybe, if I wanted to be serious (which I wasn't) I should have said the MGS series or something.

What you described is juvenile. Games can obviously be mature and have complex themes and such, but ripping a guy's head off is definitely not one of those.
