I'm the only gamer in my group and it never comes up. Even if it did and someone outside my friends called me a gamer I would pretty much go 'Yeah, sound.'

As sad as this is to admit, I miss the days when being a gamer meant you were a loser/dork/nerd/outcast/etc. Back then, being called a gamer as an insult was my badge of (geek) honor.

Then the kids came a fucked it all up, and most of my nerdrage goes towards most people whom their birth years have a "9" on the second digit.
Don't you mean third digit...?

That's also a pretty sad way of looking at things - "I don't want what I like to be popular because then I won't be unique...?"

Not really, but a lot of people who I see do nothing else but play games especially ONE game every day are insulted. Not that I would defend them, I mean I spend a fair bit of time in games myself but least I play a variety and not just SFIV or Brawl.

I don't mind being called a gamer as a insult or anything.

It's the truth. I know games..I know computers..

Friends and family never use the term to insult me..I dunno maybe it's because they had me setup their wireless networks and have me come over and fix their computers and their networks when they change a setting and fux everything up.Usually within 2 minutes everything is back up and running fine..

Actually the only thing that might bug me is someone who just bought a new console, thinks they know everything there is about games because they've read a few articles, so they call themselves a gamer and they end up knowing jack about a game or it's story because the writer of the article they read didn't put it in or it got edited for space.

Gamer,in my opinion is a title that has to be earned.
Have you built mods for a game? beta-tested for a pre-release game? Spent thousands of dollars on games and peripherals? Consumed unhealthy amounts of food and/or beverages while staying up 2 days playing a game either online or single player?

Can you tell me the best team in Tecmo Bowl?

If you can finish the sequence to:
up,up,down,down......

then you can be called a gamer.

Gamer is only an insult so much as it fits into the 'you don't have any friends' category. I haven't been explicitly said against me for years and it's also been ages since I've been formally insulted, I think.

Not really, as most have grown past that generation. Although they might tease me cause I'm a really geeky gamer.

Not really, pretty much not one person has insulted me about gaming anyways, although, I have seen it happen before. The insult usually boils down to what game you play, people seem to think that annoucing that someone they know plays online games is an insult these days.

even if he meant it as an insult, you really take offense to being called a gamer? Really? I have nearly 900 games and own more shirts with video game characters/logos on them than not. I even have a tattoo of Knuckles. I have been called a gamer many times, and was never insulted... I've been called many other things... but Gamer is one of the ones I can accept proudly.
900? Are you kidding!

I thought owning 350 was alot...
yeah... actually, it's 893... and it's across 25 different consoles. But, I have been collecting for 20 years and I never sell or trade in any game, so I still have my original games from my childhood.

Just use the fact that he enjoys life without a brain as an insult... because it is and he does. :D

And nah, I dont find it insulting. I dont care who knows I am a gamer, I talk about it loudly enough on the train, bus, street, elevator, shop, Burger King, etc.
That's not polite, you shouldn't talk loudly in public places.

Besides, don't you love people without brains?

Anyway, one of my friend tried to say I was a nerd because I played video games. I challenged him to a race, I won. Then I punched him in the face and told him to not forget the chain of command.

You dont seem to realise what I class as loud, I have a naturally quiet voice.

I dont hate people without brains for they dont exist, and I only stated this person enjoys being what they are... be it brainless or not.

I've been called a "Jitter", "Goff", "Emo", "Hippie", "Mosher" and "Grebbo" as an insult, never had someone called me a gamer though.

I said you love them, not you hate them. Ignorance is bliss is a lie anyway.
