Insults are done to provoke a negative reaction from you. Though I really don't see how being a gamer can be an insult, when you show them you really don't give a damn it backfires in their faces.

I cherish gaming with all my heart. It made me into a better man compared to other people my age.

i think that it's pathetic when people use that as an insult.

quite frankly, if that's the best they can come up with, they are the ones that deserve to be insulted. it usually is, since my old school was been filled with idiots.

my god this is long, snipped
That last line pretty much disqualified you from this thread......
You mean from the off-topic argument.

And no it doesn't, I've only recently become mostly asexual, before I was fairly sexually active, but I didn't actively pursue it. When I had sex, I never went out of my way to get it, and sometimes I turned the opportunity down, as it would inconvenience me. It is a leisurely activity, not a necessity to live.
Honestly there should be some sort of selective breeding amongst humans disguised as an IQ test, if you don't get an "above average" score you don't breed. As far as existing to reproduce is in a way the right way to think, however since most people don't die at 30 anymore we have a large problem with the overpopulation by idiots who live longer than they deserve to. You can hate me for being bitter towards humanity if you want to, but I will stick by my arguement that humanity is going down the toilet faster than ever before. If you have ever seen idiocracy, thats going to happen in less than 500 years, I would garuntee it if I were able to live long enough to see the resulting ignorance of the human race as a whole.

Oh and by the way I have no intention to reproduce and bring yet another person into this already fucked up world.

Nope, not to my recolection. My gf says I'm a nerd for playing them but doesn't mean it harshly lol which is fair enough, but other than that, no, I've never been insulted by a non-gamer for being a gamer.
(Btw, it's 'breeches', not 'britches')

Occasionally. I see it as a good thing. Same with nerd, geek, et cetera.

Off Topic: A person who called me a loser who only played video games and has no life, has two LIVE accounts with a total gamerscore of over 30,000.
I guess thats the definition of IRONEEEEEE
Family guy reference, right?

on topic: kind of, my friend once lectured me on "how I could be useing my time more constructively."

I just turned 14, so I don't know whats "constructive", yet I've been outside more once summer started.

Sup bro, http://xkcd.com/603/ wants to have a word with you. That argument you're planning on sticking to is unfounded and silly. The fact that you somehow put yourself in a position to judge who deserves to live based on your view of their intelligence may just make you the worst kind of pseudo-intellectual on the web. Flip that ***** around for a second and consider an equally unfounded argument, made succinct for your reading pleasure:

Gamers are lazy. Lazy people breed/raise lazy people. Society is shit because people are lazy. Gamers should not be allowed to breed or raise kids.

Replace gamers with any stereotyped group (IE jocks/asians/homosexuals) and lazy with any negatively loaded stereotype (IE dumb/horrible drivers/sinners) and you now have a great way to spew negatively loaded slime at anyone you want, Ghostbusters style.

And just to be a little bit OT: Gamer is only an insult when you use it to define your own character. If you're nothing more than what media you prefer to consume you're degrading yourself on a massive scale.

EDIT:

Okay, admittedly, I am somewhat of an asexual. You got me. But I wasn't always, and even then sex wasn't number one on my list.
Is being asexual still being treated like some sort of mental illness, like homosexuality was back in the day, or is it okay to come out now? I'm genuinely curious here, people seem to be really offended by the whole idea of not enjoying sex or masturbation at all.

Not really. In fact, ill take it as a compliment. I´m proud to be a gamer.
I say embrace your geekiness. I think those nerdy kids who try to be cool and start trying to hang out with the "popular" crowd and trying to "pick-up chicks" are fucking miserable.

I've never had a problem with kids calling me a gamer, although I don't talk about games or gaming with people who I know are not gamers themselves because it stops conversation flowing. It's like someone talking about Forumla 1 to me, I know nothing about it and have no interest in it so it's a pointless discussion.

I have had problems from the somewhat older generation at work who view getting home from work and going on the Xbox for a couple of hours a lifestyle worthy of pity. I just about get away with it given my age but my friend at work is older than me and much more of a gamer than me and they think it's worse for him.

We just laugh at the fact the Premier League controls their lives and they are currently going through withdrawl symptoms because they can't spend 90 minutes watching some guys run around a field in tiny shorts.

What I find even more amusing, is that when we wipe out the survivors whilst they are still in the safe room on Left 4 Dead, that is OUR achievement, WE did it, erego we have reason to be like "hell yeah that was awesome" whilst they do nothing but ride on the coat tails of the team they support, as if it was they themselves who won the FA Cup or whatever.

This has probably been said many times before, but being called a gamer is not a bad thing, everyone games now adays. I mean hell my mom plays Halo 3, and she is not too bad at it. Gaming is a norm now, i dont know how any kid would find it funn or insulting to call someone a gamer.

I have a cousin who never outright uses gamer as an insult mostly because he knows I can hit him with much worse, but he sees gaming as a children's hobby mainly because the only other person who plays them is my younger cousin. Ironically he plays games but only the mature gritty adult games because if a game has a cartoony look it's obviously for babies. Doesn't matter if it's fun or creative.

No, it isn't. If "getting laid" is the highlight of your week, you need to rethink your life, or get one. That's pretty pathetic when you value something like sex above all else.
Yeah... sex is the point of life dude. It is the reason we are here. Name one better feeling.
Not to be a prick but honestly, that comment could only come from someone who has either a complete and utter crap lay or has never experienced it before.

Anyway on topic. Not a gamer but someone asked if I played Warhammer as I "looked the type"...
So long hair and glasses automatically = warhammer geek? Don't get me wrong, I am one but still.
I have experienced sex, yes, and it was a pretty nice. But it isn't the greatest. You can live without it.

I could rant for days at that first point you made, but I'll try and keep it short. Sex -or reproduction to better define the subject, as I am sure that is what you meant- is NOT the reason we are here. It is NOT your duty to reproduce and pass on half your genome. You are only hurting the human race if you reproduce, considering our global population. Give it a few more decades, and we will be able to simply create human life as we do clones, except instead of copied DNA, we will be using a preselected assortment of genes that will create a near-perfect human in terms of his genetic code. We will even be able to create artificial wombs, we've done it for other animals already.

That comment came from someone who can see the sexual reproduction becoming obsolete in the near future, and someone who has moved beyond the boyish outlook that sex is everything, and the thing we should be hunting for the second we wake up in the morning. I understand if you have a high testosterone count and can't help it, but at least realize and admit you are a slave to your hormones, and that sex, outside of reproduction, serves no purpose -other than to bond, but there are better ways- and should not be sought after within the human species as it is in, say, an insect, who does not live very long and whose sole purpose IS to reproduce, as insect populations are often J-curve populations.
My friend, this is certainly not the place or the thread, or the website or even the world to be talking about eugenics. And eugenics is certainly what you seem to be advocating here, removing the natural process of life to make a 'perfect' race of humans. What makes us such a special species is our diversity, to remove it by creating life just from cloning perfect DNA over and over would be to remove our humanity.

And just for the record, sex isnt 'only' reproduction. If your going to refer to the animal world for what we should be doing - which is wrong - then it is interesting to note that many other species, such as dolphins and monkeys, also have sex recreationally - or for fun. There 'are' other ways of bonding of course, but those sorts of bonding serve a different purpose. Bonding through sex is a far more unique form of bonding, not to mention the psychological and physiological benefits.

Well, back in school I got called a nerd a lot. My reply was always "I would rather be a nerd who makes decent money than a wannabe gangster living in a cardboard box giving blowjobs for pennies".

That pissed them off to no end.
