I am more than happy to be labeled a geek, more for the fact that if I attract a girl then it shows she likes me despite my geekyness.

That and when my "normal" friends call me wierd then my response is simply: "Being wierd lets me have more fun!"

Why does is matter who is a "nerd" and who is a "jock"?
Those are just words, stupid words that people use to have an excuse for not meeting new people.
"Why don't you hang out with them?"
"I don't wanna be a nerd"
For fuck's sake people, that shit matters in high school (barely) and then never ever matters again.

I am me, whatever label get attached due to my personality, views or interests does not really bother me. I have been called far far worse than geek or nerd for being who I am, so those terms seem tame and harmless.

Not at all. I still have nerdy tendencies and I hate them. They do not enhance my life in any way. They just make me into an insufferable jerk.

I used to associate with nerds and geeks as my main group to associate with, then I started wanting to be something 'cooler,' and now I'm trying to be indifferent to the whole thing. People can be nerds/geeks with interests in cool guy stuff and cool guys can like nerd stuff. Anyone that says otherwise is just closeminded.

And in case anyone cares, the group I associate with now the most is furries, although I've calmed down with it since Febuary.

Edit: I guess I kinda went offtopic...
If something is an insult, then of course it will irritate me. But this can happen with just about anything. And no matter how I feel, I play games most of my life, I'm probably one of the top webcomic readers on this site, I'm a biology major at college, and I pretty much have no friends in real life. I'm a nerd.

As most of you know, I'm really uncomfortable with being labeled as a nerd or a geek unless it's a cute girl using it as a term of endearment because she likes my intelligence. I never lead a conversation with it---some of my friends have no idea I have any nerdy interests at all because I'm busy talking about sports, military matters, and other stereotypical "guy stuff". I completely check out when someone starts talking comics, anime, or any nerdy stuff other than games.

Yet I'm a gamer. And gaming is as nerdy a hobby as there is out there (especially if you're talking strategy gaming).

So what I want to know is am I stuck in the middle? Not nerdy enough to hang with the nerds and yet too much of a geek to hang with the jocks? Am I the only one who is just not comfortable with the geek label on here? (with the exception of taking any compliment on offer from women)
no im the same
i really dont feel comfortable being labelled as a geek
(especially since i hate most of the geeks at my school)
but i have geeky interests like gaming and some parts of technology

but luckily i can mostly brag my way in the middle - like there are cod fanboys who are also jocks/lads and in general im a bit of a joker so i kind of just supress that side of me mostly except on the internet

real life's interesting enough for me to not need to talk about videogames i find

Well no-one has ever called me a geek even though I openly admit my nerdy tendencies. This may just be because I'm a girl or it may be because I don't come across as a geek.

Either way, I wouldn't be bothered if someone did call me a nerd/geek. It's not really insulting.

I think there there is much less stigma around comics, gaming and nerdy things than when we were in high school Simu. It's okay to be in the middle now.
I'm much the same talking D&D and Marvel Comics one moment followed by Hockey and Football the next. It just means you're a complex person who has more than one dimension.
Just about everyone on my highschool football team played videogames, including me. I also watch anime and play D&D every once in a while. Yeah my team gave me crap but hey, I enjoy what I enjoy and im not ashamed.

Like you said it just makes me more of a complex person.

Weight-loss! Ah yes, how kind of you to remember! I've only lost about 5 pounds but I lost two and a half inches off my waist, so I'm thinking the exercise is building muscle as I'm losing fat. If that means I get stuck between 175-180, I can live with that. I think I look great.
Well muscle weighs more than fat. So if you're gaining muscle but losing weight, they sorta counter each other on the scales. But that's good to hear. Surely if accept yourself in terms of how you look, you can accept your hobbies and past-times ;)

It doesn't matter if you don't fit into those stereotypical labels, just be yourself and be happy with it

yeah, I'm very athletic, smart, and have my nerd/geek qualities about me. I can easily pick up a basketball and have no issue with playing well, but at the same time I can do Calculus, discuss history on an intelligent level, and boast about how I grinded experience in Oblivion all weekend. I'm well-rounded and am in no way shape or form embarrassed by who I am. I can pretty much fit in with almost everyone. Well that was a rant, to say the least.

When someone calls you a nerd even if it's an insult, tell them "thanks for the complement." because it is, it means your smart, in some way. Me personally I take it as a complement no matter how it's thrown at me. I think this quote is from Bill Gates. He's says "Be nice to a nerd, he might be your boss in the future."

lol You sound somewhat like me, minus the Calculus and basketball. I'm a football kind of guy. Although I have gotten a bit lazy over the past month or 2

I haven't done anything remotely active since track season which ended in May other than an occasional game of basketball. Luckily I still look like I'm in shape.

I'm not a geek. I think... well I've never been called one. I'm hard to beat in a sprint and I never put that much effort into learning unless I'm interested.

And I'm a gamer so it's not impossible.

Hm. It's kinda rare that the first response to a thread is the thread ender.

DeadlyYellow is right, though. Just like what you like and don't worry about anything else. Labels are there for the sole purpose of ridiculing people that don't fit into specific ones.

I'm a nerd, but I'm also a metalhead and athlete.

So what?

You shouldn't be ashamed about anything you like.
