Do you believe this stereotype is true? Not true? Why?

Would you like to add examples to the contrary?

I for one don't believe it is true. I've seen gamers with good taste in music and bad taste in music. But it is all subjective anyway.

NOTE: Please read the OP and don't just read the title and assume I'm ignorant.

Where did you even hear this? I've never even heard of this stereotype. No I don't think it's true. Especially considering how broad the definition of "gamer" is nowadays.

FYI there is no real way to get "examples" for this.

Finally, what the hell is good music anyway?

All true. All very true. I have gamer friends, and am a gamer myself, and between us we have metal, rap, hip-hop, pop, punk, rock, various forms of metally music that seem to have screaming or yelling in them (there are too many 'brands' of metal, so I have no idea where they fall), and Finish folk metal or something. There is probably some J-pop in there somewhere.

Yeah this stereotype is news to me. All the kids are listening to dubstep these days and some say it's medieval torture administered through sound but I don't mind it. But I don't think gamers are known for bad taste in music; gamers have all kinds of different tastes - especially given the new, broader definition of the term "gamer."

Never heard of this stereotype before. There is no terrible taste, just stuff you like and stuff you don't like but others do.

I barely even have a taste in music, but most of the music on the over synthed garbage radio makes my ears bleed; is anyone familiar with that "time of my life" remix? I was never a fan of the original but I still think that version of it is an abomination.

I guess not liking modern music and not identifying with a specific genre means I have bad taste?

My favorite type of music is seen as, by the music snobs at least, as uncultured rubbish that any somewhat sober hobo could reproduce. I also listen to a fair amount of legitimate "classical" music as well as older but still contemporary music. And "new age" music when I'm doing something that requires a fair amount of my attention as it seems to work as background music but rarely actively engages my attention.

What an odd stereotype, considdering musical tastes are completeley subjective. I like jazz, metal, classical, classic rock, etc. Don't tell me that such a broad taste is bad.

I have also never heard this stereotype and can't possibly imagine where it would have come from in the first place.

Gamers tend to have a "broader" taste in music in my experience.

I've heard of this stereotype a few times...

It makes no sense when you consider music is subjective, what I consider good music other people dislike and vice versa...

Then again I do have myself covered in the fact that I like a large range of genres.

Considering as how taste, i.e opinion, is relative to what whomever's tastes or opinions actually are, this stereotype is unfounded and illogical.

Thank god this isn't a statement you're making. Otherwise I'd be spamming you with alternative rock and metal.

I'm not even sure how to answer. Everyone has their own opinions. If you like Led Zeppelin and Slipknot, cool. Who gives a flying fuck? It's my iPod, not yours.

I heard that all people that like cheese or cheese products have terrible music taste!

See what I did there?
The "gamer" demographic is too large to even begin making stereotypes about music tastes.

Nothing too add to that.

Well, maybe that, IF that's true, it would at least imply that gamers at least have "a taste" when it comes to music.

There aren't many things that i hate more than people who can't tell you wich music they like, defaulting what they like to hear to whatever is on the radio...
