i don't know why 30+ people even game.

there are so much greater things to do. i'm 16 and in Holland that means NO DRIVING!(we are allowed to drink though)

but not being allowed to go long distances without involving my mom or the train, really bothersome.
drinking is better. unless your car tops out over 150 and you live in Europe near germany (fuck yeah audi)
my parents car does top that, and i live on the border of germany :)

so HAH i have both.
curses. america isn;t any fun with its speeed limits and drinking laws.

Please to be enjoying them separately, however, yes???

It's so nice to see some age peers posting here. :) I had to ask the question because I always wondered if us oldies were all here, but just not participating in the discussion as much ... or whether there was some sooper sekred spechul place for geriatric gamers to hang out that I just hadn't found yet...

I have played games all my life, I don't see why I should stop now. They still provide lots of entertainment for me, even though I play different games now compared to when I was, for example 10.

32 here.

Playing EVE-Online mostly, when talking multiplayer.
Also, Master of Orion 2 every now and then with a bunch of friends of my age.
A few other "free browser games" in the remaining spare time too, but I'm "trying to quit" those.

I used to be big into shooters and tactical simulations and other similar stuff, and I still try my hand at some RPG and RTS games every now and then, but it doesn't last too long (and usually just doing the single-player part), always back to those named above eventually.

I feel slightly better but am I the oldest person here? :'-(
Nah, I'm not bothered gamers are just gamers and age is nothing!

As the latest numbers put the average age of gamers somewhere around the mid-30s, I was just curious about a couple of points.

First off, as one of the 'older set' myself, I'm wondering how many of the over-30 crowd hang out here ....
Quite a few it seems. I'm in the crowd. I don't think there isn't a relation between age and preferred games or game type.

When you grow up you'll realise that adults like to have fun too.

I'm 29 and game most days. I hope I'm still doing it when I'm 80.
You said it brother and hopefully by then the technology will have progressed to being controlled by brain waves to save our arthritic hands.

Uh, because gaming is a lot of fun? What, I can drive, so suddenly I should stop enjoying games? That makes no sense.
Because video games are toys, and adults shouldn't play with toys. At least, that's a view I seem to sense with many people.
But you don't believe that do you, Susan? ;D

There have also been studies done that show that games can help prevent Alzheimer's.

I would say that is a good reason to keep playing! ^-^

Great article. Makes me feel lucky that I can be so 'out' as an older female gamer. *chuckle* Hell, co-workers come to me for advice on what to buy their kids...and I'm slowly turning a couple of my non-gamer friends into BioWare addicts...hehehe.
My mother bought my NVidia 9800 for me for my bday last year...my inlaws gave me my Xbox for Christmas...
Yeah...it's the good life...
When I read that, I could definitely relate, and so that article has stayed with me ever since. Granted, some people I've met and some in my family are understanding. One of my aunts did one of those 'tag a drawing of cartoon people' on Facebook and tagged me as "the gamer". That made me smile.

My mom actually got me into gaming way back in the early 80s, and she still loves playing. So she has always understood. I just introduced her to Steam. :)

I'm 16 but I can say my uncle, he's in his 40s and really into shooters and has been since I can even remember.
Yeah, my dad loves all war games and plays them a lot but as soon as I pull out something with some kind of depth and story or has anything more than Pow! Enemy is dead! I am immediately "wasting my life playing stupid video games" (ie. Mass Effect, Fable etc.)

OT: I'm 27 and that damned 30 is getting closer and closer
Same here, and that's what I was thinking when I was looking at the thread title.

Also, OT, my father is 72, and as far as I know he still plays Myst. I think he's stopped playing Diablo 2 finally.
