I was once told that I am not a real gamer because I am against multiplayer in The Elder Scrolls games and because I feel multiplayer shouldn't be in games like it.

I hate CoD and Halo also.

People like that need to get punched in the face with reality and knocked out of there shallow elitist minds they come to think

To go slightly off-topic, it would be interesting to watch these people who can't stand losing play the game "Demon's souls".

Those of you who have played it will know what I'm talking about.

OT: I have know other answer than that it is safe to assume that Yahtzee's statement of "everybody is shit" holds true in our society
Demons Souls was my first PS3 Game I know well what you mean on this. Games need some challange its what makes some fun and makes mastering em all the more satisfying but I do enjoy some easy games lol

Some peoples lives are empty, they try to fill them with what marketers tell them will make them happy, when it doesn't they get angry - but instead of getting angry at the right people, themselves, they take it out on others.

If you place a thing into the center of your life
That lacks the power to nourish
It will eventually poison everything that you are
And destroy you

As simple a thing as an idea
Or your perspective on yourself of the world
No one can be the source of your content,
It lies within, in the center.

Many people are afraid to venture out from their cod, halo and fifa worlds. Thus they do not know or understand the rest of the gaming world, and man always fears what it does not understand.

unless you can be completely apathetic, ppl get emotional when talking about something they care for. Thats y so serious.

damn chemicals in your brain!

Also tell a person to look at both sides of a story and most would rather not, safe in their assumption that what they know is the truth and nothing else.

damn lack of logical reasoning!

Tell your workmates that Real Gamers[sup]tm[/sup] play Tetris.

As for the rest... eh, well, people can be stupid. What more can I say? You'll get used to it, especially if you're working in retail.

This is how ridiculous and ill informed people can be about gaming even the people who work in game retails(no offense). Ages ago I went into to buy some games for my 360 as there were some games that should of been coming into my preowned price range(yes I am a cheap bastard). Anyway the person behind the counter asked if I would be getting MW2. Not to be rude or a conversation stopper or anything but I said "No I would not be buying the game as they have cut loads of different features out of the PC version and am kinda boycotting it". The person didn't know that any features had been cut off any version of the game and was not aware of the boycott that got 1/4 of mil signatures but didn't do squat unfortunately. Well maybe not squat as they did read back in dedicated and will add modding to Blops, also lean is back in.

Anyway getting off point. This stupidity or well lack of info leads into the not playing Halo/CoD thing. A lot of people and I don't mean elitist by this on console think unless you play a certain AAA title you aren't a real gamer. Suddenly it is cool to game if you play CoD or Halo. Personally I find this to be complete and utter bull. These people which make up a fair portion of the console market are also the people who DON'T come on sites like this. I had an argument with one person who thought a 360 had better graphics and was more powerful than a top of the range PC. I've also had an argument saying An analog stick is better for aiming than a mouse. No I have no problem with people preferring a console or game pad over PC and mouse but a top of the range PC does have better hardware than a console(doesn't make it better just more powerful) and a proper gaming mouse is more accurate and flexible than a controller when it comes to aiming. People can prefer to use a controller but a mouse will always be more accurate and faster and then a proper gun peripheral(eg Time Crisis) will always be more accurate and faster again if it could be properly implemented.

Anyway this post is getting too long so I will cut the next bit short. People are angry because they get big egos from singlplayer. Then when they play online they get competitive because they think they are great. Then they are not thus more anger.

where when they buy a game, if it doesn't work when they get home for whatever reason they will literally demand that the till be opened so they can take their money back because their entire life will be meaningless without either the game or the money that paid for said game
Why exactly is it a bad thing for someone to want a refund for an item they purchased that doesn't work? Particularly if it's a game.

No, that's fine, what I meant was that they seem to complete lose all concept of human social ethics and op to instead yell and scream about a faulty product instead of talking about it rationaly and explaining the problem. Most of the time it's without a receipt too.

Amen to that! The sensible gamer should have his or hers eyes opened to a variety of games, including the deceptively simple range of puzzle games which have that "easy to pick up, difficult to master" outline.

Hardcore gamers who play nothing but one genre of game and treat it as a incredibly serious career choice, occasionally regressing to a juvenile mentality if they are unfortunate to lose or to place blame elsewhere because of being beaten, do nothing but piss me off.

It's a game, a form of electronic entertainment and certainly nothing to beat poor game shop workers over the head with such arrogance. I love a good bit of banter with those who work in GAME, regardless if the little shithead behind me cant buy his Halo fast enough (obviously I wont be doing this chit chat for long if there is a massive queue. I'm daft but not stupid)

Not to mention that my co-workers claim I'm not a real gamer because I don't play Halo or COD. (I seriously think it's very close minded to decide which games make a gamer...)
In any case, certainly not those games. Games even people who mock gamers play, along with 12 year olds trying to look cool.

A better test would be to ask what the Contra code is

OP: I have no answer. In such a big world I just assume that most opinions I can think of must exist.
Um, there is no "contra code".

It's called the Konami Code and it's UP-UP-DOWN-DOWN-LEFT-RIGHT-LEFT-RIGHT-B-A-(START)

Taking something seriously is a way to enjoy anything, not just gaming. If you emotionally invest in anything its a lot more rewarding. I'd say its not a case of 'not being fun' for them, they enjoy it differently. Many people get enjoyment out of being competitive and striving to be the best - regardless of how unimportant you think it is. From the outside anything that people have a passion for looks foolish if you don't share the same view - Sports, TV, Movies, Music, Fishing... I could go on and on, you will have people who casually enjoy these and those who dedicate their lives to it and everything in between. If you are passionate about anything you are going to take it seriously, regardless of how absurd you think said passion is.

Yeah, I get what you mean there. I wish people would stop and think how they would feel on the receiving end of such rudeness.

Sorry for getting the wrong end of the stick about what you were saying.
