Microsoft (On talking about their chances of success) said:
"I think it's fair to say there's a segment of consumers at this show in particular who really pay attention, who are very passionate about all aspects of gaming, and that we listen to closely. In a broader set of community, people don't pay attention to a lot of the details. We've seen it in the research, we've seen it in a lot of the data points."
When your plan is that people don't pay enough attention to know what your product does, that's a bad product and hopefully a bad plan

I haven't connected my Xbox to the internet in... months, probably. Keep meaning to buy an extra cable for it but I just haven't. *shrug*

I can't wait to see Sony taking advantage of this. So far the amount of salt they've rubbed in Microsoft's self-inflicted wound is...amusing

Fine with me, Microsoft. I'll be over here. With my 3DS. And possibly a Wii U sometime.

I think we should thank Microsoft actually, they have realised that the 12 year old CoD players have a "everything but Xbox sux" mentality and will but the XBone regardless. This will essentially create an apartheid like scenario where the XBone is used as a quarantine zone for these undesirables while we can go play our consoles or PC without fear of someone saying "I fucked your mum last night, noob fag".

Umm...

Microsoft, are you OK? Did you have an accident?

How could anyone possibly NOT see the problem with a statement like this? It can be summed up as "Don't have the ability to meet OUR console's standards? Then don't buy our console!" I mean, they're actually ENCOURAGING people not to buy their stuff? Why? What's the point? Well, regardless, I'm happy to oblige.

Yep. And guess what? Lots of customers are still gonna buy it, because they can't help themselves. And even if they don't, Microsoft as a Windows empire to fall back on.

Normally I would agree with the Windows fallback strategy.

However Windows 8 isn't achieving even Vista levels of both sales and usage.

It seems trying to shove out a tablet OS onto the traditional Windows userbase of corporate businesses isn't the best idea.

Who would have thought?

A badly thought out PR campaign for the redesigned 360? - you can't have the new one but look you can have this older one that you probably already have but it looks a bit like the XboxOne...

Microsoft's PR department either must consist entirely of bums they pulled off the street who they keep high on drugs, or is non-existent.

"GAMERS WITHOUT INTERNET CAN GO TO SONY, NINTENDO OR THE PC"

......Just unreal.
Well, not really the PC. It can be a little difficult to get along without using steam... also, if you don't have internet, I don't imagine you'd have a lot of use for a PC.

I don't think it's anything as "noble" or well thought out to be honest. I think it really is just a case that they have felt so overconfident in their power that they have designed the Xbone with the top 5 priorities being "fleece as much money as possible from as many people as possible", and that the ego's at the company are so large, and the down-to-earth common sense so little, that they're just determined to bludgeon their way through this disaster.

It's frickin poetic.
That's my take on it as well. MS has been on top so long with all their products, and unchallenged (or so they think) that they've lost sight of the fact they need to appeal to a customer. They are just making the product that will return the most profit to them, not one that people want to buy. Same goes with Windows 8, since they thought that chasing the Mac and tablet user-base was a good idea. News flash MS: Those people aren't using MS products because they don't want to use MS products. Ruining it for the rest of us who do like MS products doesn't appeal to anyone.

In related news, Microsoft can stick the Xbox One up its anus, says every gamer in the world.

Its so fucking hilarious. You dont want to be online even for offline games? fine, fuck off and dont buy our console then!

And this, This is what they are telling angry gamers? its hard to believe but with this attitude M$ might find the Xbone joning the list of 'worst console faliures' esp as Sony seems to be pretty much taking full advantage of the situation.

Has Steve Ballmer started huffing paint or something?

Guys, what the heck are you all smoking over there?

Man the lifeboats because I think Microsoft (or its gaming division) is about to hit an iceberg.

Good grief.

I just laughed when Sony took pot shots at the Xbone.

All i can really say is, really Microsoft? REALLY???
For those that don't feel like reading the article, it's exactly what the title says, and they further went on to imply that people without an internet connection are essentially in such a strange position as to be in a nuclear sub.

They basically dismiss very valid arguments (such as the internet requirement affecting those with dodgy internet rather than missing internet) and try to trivialize the whole thing.

What are your thoughts? I feel like Microsoft has literally lost their minds, that or they've grown so accustomed to making big money they've lost all touch with reality.
Hmm, maybe the Xbox one becomes self aware in the future, and initiates the robot apocalypse, so Microsoft sent one of their executives back in time to try and ruin their product. Kind of like Terminator meets IRobot. Thats the only logical explanation.

I wonder if Microsoft believe that enough negative PR will cause some sort of PR singularity that collapses in on itself, until there's no negative PR left? That's the only explanation I have.

Well that or Microsoft are so unbelievably out of touch with consumers that they literally can't comprehend why this is a problem.
You know, in the game Hearts, you can "Shoot the Moon" by gathering all the cards that give you points (points are bad in Hearts). It's risky, because if one of the other three players gets even one point, you're stuck with a bunch of points. If you do it, though, everyone else ends up with a huge number of points (26, I think).

In short, I think Microsoft believes that if they "shoot the moon," that everyone else will get all the negative attention.

I guess they don't give a fuck anymore because they know that they completely lost this.

Like seriously. They couldn't play the BF4 demo for a full 30 seconds, and for some reason some idiot didn't take the Crimson Dragon demo off mute.
We all know they had no hope of even surpassing Nintendo that just played it safe with games that are fun, nothing too out there.
