Achievements give you more out of a game....something to go for after a game. I don't understand why people complain so much about them.
I guess it comes down to the individual, some people will swear by them, some people just won't care

It's pretty pointless, it's just a way of getting people to play games for longer. Clever yes?

I think gamerscore is only REALLY important to Xbox fanboys that refuse to play anything NOT on Xbox because it "would liek totally gay". For instance, only about an 8th (if that much) of my library is on 360. Cumulative gamerscore is pointlesss for me.

However, individual gamerscore on games is a lot. The more I like a game the more achievements I try to get. Fallout 3 is amazing

Gamerscore really helps out replay value. I only work on games I enjoy and I recently hit 30000gs, I don't particularly think I'm better than anyone, it's just interesting to compare with your friends and see how everybody got certain achievements. Does friendly competition bother you?

Ya but if they don't care why do they complain? It's not like 'get X achievement to move on' it's 'hey, you can fo this as a challenge if you want.'

The whole concept doesn't bother me, I just didn't understand the reasons behind the popularity. Neither me or the majority of my friends are hardcore gamers (except maybe football manager) I just wanted the opinions of other gamers to try and understand why people like my brother constantly bang on about it.

I like it because it gives you a sense of how much someone plays and it is nice to get achievements. But overall there are many more important things involving videogames such as the games themselves.

I play games for enjoyment, gamerscore gives me enjoyment. I don't go through the game searching for achievements the first few times I play it, but I like to go back and get them afterwards.

Does anybody really take gamerscore seriously? I don't see the point, can you use the points to get any goodies a lá Nintendo?

Your thoughts please
I don't understand why you said the same thing as my friend, that the points should be rewarded currency or something like that.

If people could buy stuff with their gamescore points then everyone would just farm achievements like never before to get DLC for free.

Then again some DLC is not worth their slapped on price tag.

Anyways for me, I do care about gamescore simply because it displays how mucc I have played games (NOT farming for achievements). YES yes I know that that didn't matter last-gen but still now you can easily see if someone is dedicated to their games.

well I dont care, and sometimes I find the achievements to be annoying, like when your really into the story of a game and its at an intense part, then an achievement flashes across the screen.
bye bye immersion

I have about 12000 I think but I don't really give a shit about it. I just play games to get achievements as it increases playtime. I do, however have a friend that is a COMPLETE achievement whore, whenever I have a new game the first thing he asks is "Are the achievements good?"

The people who do nothing but talk about gamerscore and grind achievements in games they don't like are addicted. It's a small feeling of accomplishment that is easily repeated... like HEROIN! not really... but I don't think it's necessarily a "hardcore" thing. I have a friend with over 90000k. He has to play every game that comes out and even hacked games for a while, but he didn't have any fun with it, he was just very sad.

Just makes the game a bit more interesting for some people. And some achievements are pretty impressive, like "Mile High Club" or some of the other skill based CoD achievements before youtube begat about 30 video walkthroughs for each of them.

I do it for fun, but I don't get stupid ones.

People who do have too much free time.
Or can't buy new games too often and use the achievements as something to aim for, therefore extending the life of the game you dropped quite a bit on?

That's me, which explains almost half of my games having 1000. Plus I'm pretty sure I have mild OCD, or something.

I'm not too bothered, it's fun trying to achieve the full 1000 in a game you enjoy. Extends the game's lifespan, well for me anyway. Seriously, why moan about something you can ignore?

Isn't the may thrill of a game all about achieving something? Gamerscore is just another way of say "I beat you"
