Fair enough. Sorry about that. I assume everyone I meet on the internet is male until proven otherwise, it's safer that way. As the saying goes, "The Internet; where Men are Men, Women are Men, and Children are FBI".

I don't actually mind, other than it's just something I have to correct. I'm an FBI midget. :3

I sort of know what you mean. Although the problem isn't really much of one on my TV, it does get annoying, to the point that I almost play games like Wind Waker, Okami, Mirror's Edge, and Halo just to avert this (although the fact that they're good games helps).

I have that problem too, bought myself a new television last week and i was horrorfied as to how dark all the games were on default setting compared to my old television. I maxed out all the settings and it was still too dark for me to see anything in fallout without standing next to a burning bin with my pipboy on, although this may be due to the television? I don't know as games like gears of war havent got any difference from my older smaller TV.
Same with all my other games though. Only good thing is that on oblivion I have a Permanent night eye Enchanted amulet on my non vampire character. but when using nighteye in the day is seeable something must be wrong (?)

I'm not quite sure how to classify you then. Gah! My carefully built world of self-delusion is collapsing!

Yeah, and half the times flashlights or torches are useless and the settings on my TV or game make stuff worse. But I still play.

normally when you use night eye you struggle to see anything in the day. I've got no trouble with that which strikes me as worrying :p

Just to mention, my Tv isnt that new, but its still pretty big, like 42 something inches
Is it a Vizio? Some televisions have better "black levels" than others. Generally the more expensive the tv, the better quality black you're going to get. If you're TV has crappy black levels, than anything that is too dark starts to lose definition into a cloud of grayblack. Vizios are notorious for this. :/

I have an insigna and I suffer from similar problems. I have to turn my gamma levels all the way up generally just so I can see what the hell is going on. Killzone 2 especially tried my patients at a number of times when I just couldn't see wtf was going on.

for whatever reason developers don't seem to think that bright sunny days with brightly coloured flowers in a meadow would lead to riveting, gut wrenching game play...

It seems to me that Halo 2 and 3 on consoles are the worst, but I don't think the color palletes of black, brown and even more black are really brightening up other games.
