After endless dabates on the subject of games as an artform, I've decided I'd like to see examples of what people would consider art in a game.

It could be anything, from an incredibly pretty screenshot, through to an emotionally intense cut scene. And if you've made anything yourself, it'd be nice to see it.

I'll start off with something I'd fancied doing for quite a long time. I used Koyaanisqatsi as my inspiration. Some of you may be aware of this seminal masterpiece. Most of you will know at least one homage to it, such as the original trailer for GTAIV.

Anyway, mine's 7 minutes long and created in Microsoft Flight Simulator X. It took me five days to piece together, including mixing the original Phillip Glass soundtrack!

Narrative is a powerful thing if properly used. Recall the opening scene from the movie "Up", the montage of Carl's happy married life. Not a single word is said but you get all the emotions in that scene because you can "read" what's going on by body language, color tonality and the music. This is one of the driving forces behind the paratext of Half Life 2 or Bioshock, or the entire storyline for Limbo. Not enough games that tout themselves for having a story contain narrative information this way, many of them simply explain the plot through exposition which only gives justification for travel and action in the game itself. Not that there's anything wrong with that (Mass Effect, Final Fantasy, Halo), it's just an underused and under appreciated method of story implementation.
