I've never been a fan of this woman, and I actually had not heard about this until now. Now I feel I have a justified reason for hating her; comparing video games meant for adult audiences (as most "violent video games" are slapped with a M rating, and all) to a crime that in my personal opinion is infinitely worse and more cruel than murder makes her something less than human.
It hasn't happened to me, but I know a couple of girls that it *has* happened to. For her to make light of it for the sake of condemning something she'll never understand is genuinely abhorrent behavior. She is less than human; she is an animal.
Insert all generic comments about shoddy politics and research methods and ha ha what a tard she is.
Seriously though, someone really needs to slap her across the face and tell her to shut the hell up. Whether you've been one for 2 years or 20, ignorant is ignorant.

Minecraft is the reason why fossil fuels are depleteing. Fact.
It's true. Studies have shown that in the short months that Minecraft has been available the number of open face mining operations has increased dramatically, and that the BP spill was in fact caused by a 12 year old who was playing Minecraft in Germany at the time.

I don't have time to show you all the facts now, but I've been telling my cat about all the research I've been doing for the past 20 years, so it must be true.

I therefore move that we ban Minecraft, on the grounds that it makes my cat cough up hairballs.

Oh no, I can't actually prove my points or my sources! Will that shut me up?

No.

*sigh*

Hopefully the tremendous proof that she has no idea what she is talking about will reach the ears of those willing to accept her message. It'll no doubt still lead to mothers in the bible belt burning video games.

What silly logic, I've been speaking English for over 20 years and I'm still not completely sure where to put a semi-colon.
A semi-colon is used when you want to express two different but related ideas that by themselves would be considered sentence fragments and with out as a run-on sentence.

Example: It honestly hurts sometimes how stupid can get this kind of press with litteraly no information (and a lot of lies); when are we going to see the studies that show that games are harmless getting national media attention.

BP should know better than to employ overseers of oil rig operations on the basis of how efficient people are at extracting natural resources on Minecraft.

How is it that all anyone has to do is write a single book on a topic, and then they can call themselves an expert on the topic.

?Over the years, I have read hundreds of studies linking videogames to violence. Rape, as a violent act, is implied in them,? she wrote in an e-mail. ?When videogames are violent and sexual, it causes the players to become desensitized to rape and think it is a ?game.??
wait who actually thinks like that, I saw it in a game, therefore it is a game?

If that was the case she would not be making statements without the evidence required to back them up.

She was probably one of those girls that screamed rape if a boy sat down next to her in elementary school...

She is obviously a witch. Burn her.

It really makes me mad how people draw invisible lines between video games and crime. It makes me even more mad when they do that and it is proven that crime rate has decreased.

I really wish that generation would finally . . . how to best put it for her ears . . .? "fade away" so that videogames can finally be seen with some goddamn MATURITY. I mean really she's been doing this research for 20 years? that's why she was chosen to testify to congress? more like she HAPPENS to have the right opinion for some bullshit congressman with scared old ladies as constituents that he wants to make feel better about themselves.

That's the one thing no one really wants to talk about as I see it.

The controlling generation WILL NOT SEE THEM AS WE DO. You can tell me your mom or dad plays games all you want, fine . . . my dad plays old arcade games, my friends mostly have parents that play THEIR games like Red Dead, Resident Evil, Call of Duty . . . that means nothing. the CONTROLLING Generation won't allow it.

Once they are gone . . . we'll be one step further. However, it's not until (let's be honest girls and boys) OUR generation (those born in the mid to late 80s and early 90s) have become that controlling generation. Then, and only THEN will Videogames take their place along side books, movies, radio, music, comics, manga, Tabletop RPGs and others.

And honestly when I hear about people like her, I wonder why Anonymous doesn't do their thing on that person too or instead . . . her dogma is just as dangerous . . . just as deadly for us and the industry. Imagine it Anon . . . all it will take is a moderate group of people like her and BOOM . . . millions out of work because videogames are "against the law." And why will they be? because of stories like that . . . this game makes you a rapist, manhunt makes you a serial murderer, Doom makes kids shoot each other, all it takes . . . is that one spark . . . and BOOM. It will explode.

And to think all this time gaming was grooming me to become a violent rapist. And here all this time I thought I was a pacifist..but shit what do I know I've only been playing games for 20 years, that doesn't make me an expert or anything.

and politicians the country over (on all sides of the allignment wheel) screaming about how bad videogames are and supporting the California law. This is no longer a fight my friends . . . it's becoming a war . . . I don't know that the first shot has been officially fired, but the California law (with it's heavy and wide spread effect) is close enough for me.

in short:

If she were called upon to go before congress today . . . she wouldn't need evidence. Think of the evidence California had to make their law. Let me grab the folder. Here it is . . . open up and . . . . oh look at that JACK SHIT. But the law got passed . . . all she did is take it to the next level, nothing but fluff and bullshit . . . so thick and egg scented I can smell it from here . . .

Sadly this is how science works our days.
You work to get a reputation and after a certain point that reputation holds your thesies.

It has to, because information production rate multiplies every day (with the internet and stuff) but information reception rate (the speed at which you can read) doesn't.

While this case is particularlly moronic it just reflects how science is practiced in the 21th century.
"It is like I say, because it is in the literature. Where? Somewehre, I am sure. Go look for it, I am too important to do so"

/quiet rage.

Hopefully this woman will wind up with exactly what she's earned for herself: scorn by the public and getting laughed out of the courtroom by the judge. Here's hoping that there's someone from the other side present to point out the MANY gaping holes in her 'logic'.

How in the hell does shooting guns killing people got to do with rape? This is one of the most stupid thing ive ever seen.
Obviously the bullet represents a male reproductive organ, the wound left by it a female one, the permantent effect caused by it, death, represents the permanent psicological damage inflicted on the victim and since the victim didn't consent to get shot it is rape. [/sarcasm]

Apart from all the specific idiocy that seems to be at work in her brain, she generally embodies the WORST possible kind of researcher or scientist in general.

"I testified in front of X, therefore I know what I am talking about."
"I´ve been doing this for X years, therefore I know what I am talking about."
"I can´t be bothered to substantiate my claims with valid peer-reviewed material, but it IS there, just trust me."

THOSE ARE NOT ARGUMENTS. THIS IS NOT HOW SCIENCE WORKS. THE SCIENTIFIC COMMUNITY DOES NOT OPERATE ON SENIORITY. WE ARE NOT THE F*CKING SENATE.

You are either able to provide actual proof for your argument or at least have material on hand, that STRONGLY SUGGESTS that your argument is correct or you can F*CK OFF.

....... sorry. This kind of people just piss me off immensly, possibly because I have to deal with them on a regular basis.

Taken from the article (for example, a flail explosion on multiple enemies rewards you with a trick-shot accolade called a Gang Bang. However, the game contains no sexual scenes.) Then whats the problem its just a name that doesn't mean i am going to do that in real life
