Happy Holidays Escapists!

I don't know what time it is abroad but here, Christmas is in its last few hours for another year (although I have another 2 out of 4 christmasses to go, mwah ha ha!). So what I want to know is, what games did you guys find under the tree this year, and have you had a chance to play them yet? If so, what's been your first impressions?

As for me, I received Paper Mario: Sticker Star from my brother and thus far, I'm liking it. I'd especially like to hear what other people think of that game?

Games... what games did I find under the tree this year... Imma just assume you include Steam games in that list sooo...

For PS3:
Far Cry 3
Mass Effect 3
Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale (Includes Vita version)

For Steam:
Don't Starve
FTL
Thief Gold
Company of Heroes
The Witcher: Enhanced Edition
Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines
Some DLC for Fallout: New Vegas and The Binding of Isaac

And that's not it, I still have like $50 each for PS3 and Steam to spend. I'm feeling a little overwhelmed.

I haven't really had a chance the play any of them except for Playstation All-Stars and gosh dingle-dang is it a blast to play. I just can't wait until they add Kat from Gravity Rush as a playable character.

Also, my sister got a 3DS for Christmas along with Paper Mario: Sticker Star. I played it for a little bit and I enjoyed it, albeit not as much as The Thousand Year Door. I like how they handled the battle system. It encourages a bit more strategy and conservation of your items. But the biggest downside would have to be no partners that engage in battle. That really kills the game for me.

I got XCOM: Enemy Unknown and Spec Ops: The Line. I have yet to play either, because my tower that can actually run things is in a dorm room three states away. I'm rather looking forward to them both, for entirely different reasons.

There was only one game I really wanted this Christmas, and I did get it (the package arrived on Christmas Eve, no less): Zone of the Enders: The Second Runner. I've waited the better part of a decade for a chance to play this game. Initially you just couldn't find it because of the small sales numbers, then it became a cult classic and the price shot up to a ridiculous amount (like, $200 for a copy in good condition was not unheard of), and then finally the re-make came out and the price on copies of the originals hit rock bottom. So I wound up getting it for Christmas this year. Haven't started playing it yet, but I probably will tomorrow. I've been too busy playing with my other gaming related Christmas present, a mid range Android smart phone with a slide out physical keyboard (the better to play games that need buttons with). If anyone cares, it's the Kyocera Rise.

If you count the Steam Winter Sale, buying it for yourself right?, I bought Lone Survivor, Spec Ops: The Line, Batman: Arkham City GOTY, the Walking Dead and Max Payne 3. I've only played The Walking Dead so far and it is fantastic. I can't download all the games I bought, limited bandwidth, so I'm making the decision to install Max Payne 3. I've recently finished the second one and I want to continue his story.

I got Thomas was Alone (already beat it :p) Limbo, and Spec Ops: The Line but I've been playing a few other games like the first Witcher. I'm also competing in a Dota 2 tournament in January so yeah I'm putting in plenty of play time there as well.

I'll probably buy some more games too since I got some gift cards that can be used as credit/debit cards. Oh steam why won't you let go of the stranglehold on my wallet?

i bought close to 50 games. i was naughty.

i have been playing skyrim for the last couple of hours, yeah im late to the party but wow i thouht they would of fixed the ui and controls by now :-|
Yeah no... Bethesda isn't going to be fixing that methinks.
If you've got it on PC - get the SkyUI mod. It is a necessity for your inventory and spells menu. You need SKSE for it to work, but there's a link to all that stuff on the Nexus page. I'd also recommend Headbomb's better sorting. Won't work well with any mods that change what items do, or their values, but it renames them so that they sort properly in your inventory - no more searching through 50 different types of potions to find the 1 restore health potion you want, everything is actually grouped nicely. In addition its modular, so if you only want potions renamed you can get only potions renamed, but I like having everything renamed so I can actually find what I'm looking for.

OT: None. I've got plenty of money to buy games with, but games themselves are digital distribution these days, so buying them in store is a waste of money - unless its a special edition that has a lot of physical stuff you want. Saves me having to find more room for the cases, saves money for whoever buys them, and I don't have to worry about losing them any time or getting crappy ones that people thought looked nice. No idea what I'll get just yet, but I'll figure it out some time.

The game that I didn't purchase myself this year was Guild Wars 2.

I was really happy to get it. Unfortunately, being home, the only internet that's available for my computer is through my tethered phone, so I don't want to try playing it with that. Plus I have no one to group up with yet if I did decide to play.

Oh woe to me, Escapist... anyone want to show me the ropes in about two weeks?

I *sniff* I did not receive any games from family because females of a certain age = handbags and nailpolish. I did buy myself Asura's Wrath though. It was cheap and I enjoyed the demo.

I got Far Cry 3 for the PS3 from the family. I've had a great time with it so far, but then I only managed a couple of hours before I had to do the visiting rounds for Christmas lunch.

The always-online thing is stupid though.

I only got Borderlands 2, I've only played a little bit of it because I got called out to work last night, which kinda ended any chance of playing further. In retrospect, I shouldn't have been surprised, everytime I do standby on Christmas I get called out.

I got Disgaea 4: A promise unforgotten and I am loving every minute of it, the only reason I am not playing at the moment is because the PS3 is in the living room and my parents want to watch TV, not look at "brightly coloured characters beating the multicoloured shit out of each other" to quote my dad.
