I would suggest Bastion!

- Fun RPG with easy-to-grasp mechanics
- Gameplay that's only as difficult as you want it to be
- Interesting but sparse story that's beautifully married to the gameplay
- Beautiful graphics, but not too intense for weaker systems
- Amazing soundtrack!!1!

I need some advice: My dad wants some games and i´m not sure what to recommend. He likes games with varied gameplay, not too complex, light on story and not too retro. He has a pc with a geforce 5700 so newer games are out of question. Half-life is his favourite game, but he also liked portal, metal gear solid, and The Ball. So, can you recommend him some games?
Skyrim, has a great pace for that special 35+ year old gamer.

He has good taste.
Does he have access to any other consoles? A PS2/3 or a Wii maybe?
If not, than I would recommend he try Morrowind, big PC game, simple to run, good training for Skyrim (for when he gets a better PC) The original Deus Ex and Painkiller where already mentioned, so I'll re-iderate them. I don't know if Minecraft will run on that card, but I'll mention it anyway. If he can run Portal than he can run TF2, it's free to play now so he may as well give that a shot. While we're talking online FPSes, he might enjoy Counter Strike (and by extension CSS). If he likes 2D platformers, than I would HIGHLY recommend VVVVVV, single best inde game I have ever played. Also, Hitman Blood Money is 75% off today on Steam, very good game, highly recommended
That should get ya started.

I suggest Red Dead Redemption for him and maybe La Noire.

Sounds like your dad is a Valve fan. How about L4D and L4D2?

I recommend Psychonauts, even though it's pretty story heavy.

Also recommend the original Prince of Persia, and all the sequels if his computer can handle them.

If he doesn't have anything against Star Wars and likes FirstPersonShooting with mixed Strategy (you're a squad leader and have people which you can chose to freely do what they want or command them like a real squad leader)
Game name: Republic Commando
