Without getting into the "Why are you suicidal" thing, "If someone you knew was unhappy and has spent way too much time dwelling on negative thoughts and just doesn't see how they can go on, what videogames would you recommend to them to pull them out of it?"

I used to love Animal Crossing... I presently only have a PC so anything that it can play or emulate would work.

Anything thats lets you kill stuff in a satisfying manner. It is what I have found that works for me. The darker the game the better. Animal Crossing made me more depressed. Not only do you get hosed by that effin racoon but then are forced to deal with all those shiny happy animals.

Right now I am using Dead Space 2 to help get over a bit of depression. I mean my life may suck right now but at least I am not some poor fucker who just woke up in a straight jacket on a spaceship full of aliens who want to eat me again.

Plain Sight. Its a game about suicidal ninja robots and demonstrates how much more fun it is to take other people with you.

Little Big Planet. It will make you so happy you will look at life and think 'Hey, this isn't so bad!'

Oh, you only have a PC?
There are tons of light-hearted adventure games out there. I would recommend Minecraft, but that game would be too lonely for what you're after.

O boy, um, play SPLATTERHOUSE, and if possible, blast DevilDriver whilst playing for maximum steam-blowing goodness.
Or jam on Guitar Hero, that always calms my nerves.

EDIT: Crap, for PC?
Sorry, I can't help you then.
I guess Diablo II is entertaining, not exactly unadulturated fun, but pleasing nonetheless.

i'd suggest a game called Recettear. it's fun and insanely adorable. It's a jrpg stile game were you play as an item shop owner.
you can get it on steam

note if you don't like cute or jrpgs i wouldn't suggest it but if you do go for it!

I'm actually playing through Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars. The music in that game always cheers me up. Always. I've been mixing that in with some Dead Space 2. Dead Space 2 helps a little bit, but too much of it and I feel like shit again. Super Mario RPG though, I could play for hours and not mind it one bit.

I'm not back into that area that you make yourself out to be in, but this keeps me from getting close to it again.

As weird as it may sound: Silent Hill.
I think this is a great idea. Instead of distracting the person with good vibes, you show them what could actually happen to them, you know...by using metaphors. People seldom change when you show them good things. You really gotta show them the rough and tough gruesome truths if you want them to change. At least I think so.

While Planescape: Torment seems vaguely appropriate in a messed up sort of way, I'm going to have to go with Kirby here.
