Anything thats lets you kill stuff in a satisfying manner. It is what I have found that works for me. The darker the game the better. Animal Crossing made me more depressed. Not only do you get hosed by that effin racoon but then are forced to deal with all those shiny happy animals.

Right now I am using Dead Space 2 to help get over a bit of depression. I mean my life may suck right now but at least I am not some poor fucker who just woke up in a straight jacket on a spaceship full of aliens who want to eat me again.

This. I have a mild form of depression and this always helps me. It's easy, fun, addictive, and gives you a sense of accomplishment without any "real" rewards.

Dude it's Isaac Clarke. The one and only necromorph killing machine. Being on another ship full of them is just another day in the life. I mean it is the equivalent of me (being a Canuck) waking up and seeing snow out my window. Sure if I was say Hawian it might be something special.

As weird as it may sound: Silent Hill.

it doesn't sound weird at all; i'd recommend F.E.A.R., or limbo; something spooky that will remind them that it's better to live than to die, something where they can realise that they do not wish to be dead, where the virtual dread outweighs their RL misery

(then again, i don't think that video games as monotherapy are sufficient treatment, and maybe they should get that at a psychiatry of their trust, but i take it this thread was meant that serious... yes?)

Well you can replace unicorn with any persona name (like Satan or Lucifer if you're feeling depressed) but I always found him screaming unicorn while he shoots himself in the head a tad funny.
